Firefly and Mr Freeze join forces to plunge Gotham into a permanent winter. With the entire police force put in ice, Batman is the city's only hope for survival.
Tropes for this episode include:
- Bait-and-Switch: Bruce get nervous when he thinks Yin deduces that he is Batman. However, Yin praises Bruce for actually caring about Gotham and its people. She isn't wrong. Both Bruce and his alternate persona care a lot about Gotham.
- …But He Sounds Handsome: Inverted, with Wayne assuring Rojas that if Batman had encountered him, he’d make the vigilante regret trashing his lab.
- Likes Clark Kent, Hates Superman: While Chief Rojas openly detests Batman, at the gala he takes a liking to Bruce Wayne.
- Harmless Freezing: Everyone at the gala, including Bruce, ends up encased in ice blocks from head to toe; while Bruce gets free fairly quickly, everyone else is thawed slowly. There are no signs of oxygen deprivation or hypothermia that a hot cup of coffee couldn't fix. This is jarring after Mr. Freeze's first appearance in the series where harm done by such freezing (aside from suffocation) is painted in a more realistic light.
- Pet the Dog: At the police gala, Chief Rojas shown to be rather cordial to Bruce Wayne when Bruce acts like he agrees with his stance on the Batman.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Counter to expectations of their respective elements, Mr. Freeze is the red (easily angered, prone to lashing out) to Firefly's blue (calm under pressure, follows the plan of his boss).
- Rewatch Bonus: Chief Rojas notices Yin was cheering for Batman as well. This may have been why he suspects she's working with the Batman in later episodes.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Firefly’s jokes and uncaring attitude only serve to annoy the humorless, cold-hearted Freeze. It comes to a head in the climax.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: After a season and change of having to fight crime while dodging the police and the public in general, Batman finally gets acknowledged as a bona-fide hero when he thaws out the entire GCPD, and they (sans Rojas) immediately cheer him as he swings off.
