Anais: There's nothing wrong with him! Why can't you be happy for me for just one minute?

Anais finally manages to make a friend named Josh. Gumball and Darwin assume there's something wrong with him if he'll be Anais' friend, so they decide to investigate.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Paleontology: At the beginning during Anais's Impending Doom P.O.V., she grabs Tina by the tail to which Tina responds by detaching her tail and running off just like a lizard. Dinosaurs are not lizards at all.
  • Behind a Stick: Gumball and Darwin try to hide behind a pole, but they're still visible. Darwin tries to make it better by pushing some other poles from across the street.
  • Call-Back: Anais makes the same zombie-esque declaration of "Frieeeends!" like she did while chasing after Jodie in "The Parasite".
  • Church of Happyology: Josh's plans for Anais is extremely reminiscent of Scientology.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Josh.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Josh gives Gumball/Ferzandelerp a thumbs up after trying his "meatshake", he responds by angrily splashing the meatshake on him. Hilariously enough, it's a reference to how it can be seen as the offensive "up yours" gesture in other countries.
Gumball: How dare you?! This means great insult in my country!
  • Downer Ending: Turns out that Josh is a complete nut and Anais is back to having no friends.
  • Fauxreigner: Gumball plays the waiter as a Funny Foreigner who keeps messing up orders by mishearing them (or rather, intentionally mishearing them, considering what Gumball's plan is). When asked which country he's from, he responds "New Joisey".
  • Funny Foreigner: Gumball's first test with Josh is to disguise himself as a funny and incompetent Italian waiter under the pseudonym Ferzandelerp, who accidentally spills water over Josh's shirt and gives him a "meatshake" instead of a milkshake. And when asked where he's from, what's his response?
Gumball: (with New Jersey accent) New Joisey.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Even Tina flees in terror when Anais goes "hunting for friends".
    Banana Joe: SHE'S HUNTING AGAIN!
  • Impending Doom P.O.V.: The episode opens on something attacking Elmore students from its point of view. It turns out to be Anais.
  • I've Come Too Far: Anais stops Gumball and Darwin on setting up the wallet test as she voices concerns they're putting Josh through too much for nothing. After briefly considering what the implications would be for themselves, if they admit what they're doing is wrong, Anais quickly concedes they might as well finish testing him.
  • Joke and Receive: One of Gumball's suggestions as to why Josh would be friends with Anais is that he's part of some cult that worships a space frog. Turns out he's right.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Gumball tests Josh by pretending to be an incompetent waiter to see if he loses his temper. Despite Gumball's abuse, Josh remains polite and gives a 50% tip.
  • Sequel Episode: The episode follows up on Anais' issues with making friends from "The Parasite".
  • Subverted Suspicion Aesop: Despite Darwin and Gumball's suspicions, Josh really is a very nice person who wants to be Anais's friend... but (as they also guessed) he's also a member of an insane cult that he expects Anais to join and give all her money.
  • Tempting Fate: Gumball and Darwin try to tempt Josh to do bad by leaving a wallet on the sidewalk. Not only does Josh not fall for it, he ends his friendship with Anais over it. Darwin mentions that things can't get any worse, and that's when a seagull takes the wallet.
