Patrick Fitzgerald is going to a meeting with the head of Chanax to present his proposal for a new hospital, and he's extremely nervous. Gumball decides to tag along to prove he's good enough for Penny, but all he does is exacerbate things.

Tropes:

  • Art Shift: Gumball sees a nightmarish sequence of colored pencil-on-black sketches (done by former Gumball 3D animator, Vic Chhun) inside the golfball the green goblin CEO hits.
  • All Just a Dream: Gumball, who has been hit by a golfball, has these hallucinations. It's shown that it was a dream at the end.
  • Bizarre and Improbable Golf Game: Subverted; the golf game does get weird after Gumball gets hit with the golfball (including cheating by hooking a vacuum cleaner to one hole to suck the ball into another), but the end revealed that everything that happened was all in Gumball's concussion-addled head as he lay unconscious on the green.
  • Body Horror: Gumball starts messing with his DNA during the elevator ride with Patrick, causing him to horribly mutate in a number of ways. His body ends up filling up the regularly-sized elevator car.
  • Bowdlerization: In Cartoon Network Latin America, the part where Gumball signs the Chanax guest book with his butt and winks at Karen was cut.
    • The Turkish dub also cut the part where Gumball turns into a monster in the elevator after altering his DNA strand.
  • Captain Obvious: The goblin keeps pointing out Gumball's actions in the most obvious way possible.
  • Concussions Get You High: Gumball suffers really trippy hallucinations after getting hit in the head by a golf ball. Subverted when it turns out he wasn't actually conscious after getting hit.
  • Continuity Nod: The man Patrick proposes his project to is the goblin that became the new head of Chanax in "The Boss" who also appeared in “The Finale”, “The Check”, “The Money”, and “The Signature”. The boss before him from the same episode (the crumpled piece of paper) can be seen framed on the wall in the scene of Gumball trying to patrol the restroom.
  • Cruel Twist Ending: Gumball appears to have proven his worth to Patrick, but this was just a hallucination caused by a golf ball to the head. Patrick actually lost the golf game and the contract with it.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Patrick attempts to get rid of Gumball by locking him in a car, but is shocked to find that it doesn't work. Gumball has to remind him that locking cars prevents people from getting in, not out (and also, leaving a child in a car is a criminal offense).
  • Imagine Spotting: The head of Chanax somehow witnesses the concussion-induced fantasy Gumball has at the episode's end.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: As Patrick starts stating that the police don't prioritize enforcing a law about leaving children alone in cars, a squad from the Elmore PD immediately shows up to do just that.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The Goblin tends to laugh at everything and tease his employees about it, but he wasn't wrong about how Gumball's antics foiled Patrick's chance to build a new hospital.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Gumball keeps appearing ahead of Patrick, no matter how hard Patrick tries to elude him. Also, Gumball's arm appears at the opposite side of the screen on two separate occasions.
  • Success Hallucinations: Most of the second half is just Gumball hallucinating due to the concussion he got from being hit by a golf ball.
  • Take That!:
    • The goblin CEO tells Patrick that Gumball makes him laugh, which he hasn't done since his last bailout.
    • Gumball tells Patrick he's going to help Patrick cheat at golf like a professional cyclist...and a professional baseball player...and a professional football player.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Patrick mentions that Richard once ended up in the hospital because he wanted to know what lightning tasted like.
