Gumball and Darwin receive a threatening e-mail from someone who claims to have been wronged by them. They decide to apologize to everyone who they might have done something wrong to, but fail to find out the real culprit, who's out for messy revenge.

Tropes:

  • Ad Hominem: The episode opens with Gumball and Darwin finding out the point they've been arguing for on the internet for seven hours (that nachos are a vegetable) is wrong, so they decided to insult the other guy for using "who" instead of "whom", then block him before he can respond.
  • Behind a Stick: When Gumball admits to asking Darwin to make a surrogate confession to Penny, he comes out from behind a football goalpost.
  • Bowdlerization: The version shown on Cartoon Network Arabia edits the entire part where Darwin confesses Gumball's feelings for Penny.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Darwin and Gumball can't remember running away while their future pursuer invited them to be his friends—as it turns out, they really had no way to know that's what they were doing.
  • Continuity Nod: Numerous ones show up when Gumball and Darwin browse ElmorePlus
    • Penny's says she's seeing a doctor about her blueberry allergy we saw in "The Dream" (though "The Romantic" shows that she still has it, but is taking medication for it).
    • Hector mentions his hamster isn't eating; in "The Colossus," we learn that Hector's mom lied to him about his hamster being dead (so as not to upset him).
    • Gumball and Darwin are using the same "duckface" picture for their avatar as when they opened the account in "The Colossus".
    • Tobias' picture uses the pose Darwin complained about him overusing in "The Words".
  • A Day in the Limelight: For William.
  • Eye Scream: Gumball decides there has to be something to apologize to Sussie about, so he slaps her on the head like playing a bongo and accidentally knocks one of her eyes off. She thought it was funny.
  • Disney Creatures of the Farce: After making all of his apologies, Gumball is so peaceful that forest animals start gathering around him despite being indoors.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Darwin reads a threatening email directed to him and Gumball in a deep voice.
Gumball: Dude, what's with the voice?
Darwin: It says at the top "read in a scary voice".
  • Fighting Your Friend: Darwin and Gumball are each tricked into thinking the other sent the e-mail and start fighting. The real sender looks on as he expects them to destroy each other, but they make up in seconds and he decides to deal with them himself.
  • Grammar Correction Gag:
Darwin: (reading an e-mail in a "deep, scary voice") By the end of the day, I will have my revenge, and you will be sorry for the way you have treated me. Signed, your sworn ememu.
    (new message comes in)
Darwin: Sorry, typo. I meant enemy.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: Gumball apologizes to Masami and asks if there's anything he can do to make up for it, but really doesn't mean it.
Masami: Well, actually, there are a couple of things—
Gumball: Uh, let me stop you right there. We don't have a lot of time, so I'm just gonna placate you with some half-baked lie and then come up with a lame pretext to bail on you.
Darwin: Sorry Masami, we've got to go because of some random excuse. Bye!
  • Ironic Episode Title: The episode name "The Voice" initially seems appropriate because Darwin and Gumball's pursuer only has his voice known to the audience, but becomes ironic after The Reveal—namely that he has no voice and we'd only heard his thoughts.
  • It's All About Me: Tobias' complaint to Gumball and Darwin is that the show isn't about him.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Tobias is asked if Gumball or Darwin have done anything to upset him, his reply is basically complaining that he isn't the main character of the show.
Tobias: I should be more important! I should be the one with the sidekick and exciting adventures. I'm more handsome, richer, AND more colorful than you guys, and YET, it's like I'm the supporting character of my own life!
  • Let's You and Him Fight: William turns the duo against one another via paranoia. It doesn't last long, thankfully.
  • Love Confession: Penny gets one from Darwin, but he was actually doing on Gumball's behalf because he didn't have the courage to say it himself.
  • Man Hug: Gumball and Darwin offer one to Tobias to make up with him. He refuses because they're in the locker room at the time ("I'm not hugging you, we're both in towels."), so Darwin towel whips him until he agrees.
Darwin: Accept our apology! Accept it! Forgive us! Look how sorry we are! Give us a hug!
  • Shaky P.O.V. Cam: We get several first-person shots of the one after Darwin and Gumball. The camera slowly bobs up and down, hinting at his true identity.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The one sending Darwin and Gumball threats turns out to be William, a character who had never said a word and barely ever appeared in the entire show before then. In fact, that's why he was after them: he didn't realize he was unable to talk, and thought they were just ignoring him.
  • Take a Third Option: First Gumball and then Darwin become convinced that walking in down the halls in the front or back will result in being killed first, so Gumball comes up with a "solution" each time: first he walks around wearing Darwin's body like a suit, then he has Darwin carry him around on his back.
  • Tomato Surprise: We see a flashback of Gumball and Darwin talking to William where they ignore his request to be friends. At the end of the episode both William and the audience find out they ignored him because he didn't say anything—he isn't actually capable of speech because he doesn't have a mouth.
  • Wham Line: "In silence? Oh gosh, no one can hear me, can they?"
