Esme's imaginary friend, a gargoyle who was Real After All has returned to San Lorenzo looking for her eggs she left behind. As a flock of Gargoyles hatching unattended in town could prove to be disastrous for the town, everyone sets out to help find them before they hatch.

- Trying to figure out where the eggs went, Puss thinks that Angus might have them, and visits the Grotto of Riches where he and Mary are busy running their school for sheep.
- The cockatrices were last seen terrorizing the thieves in the Thieves Market. Since then the thieves have managed to tame them and use them as mounts.
- Everyone Has Standards: Upon discovering that the eggs really are dangerous, the thieves that find out stop protecting Ignacio and start helping Puss get their hands on them.
- Holding Back the Phlebotinum: The Silver Dowsing Rod of Akhenaten's absence here is justified by the fact that it is now broken.
- I'll Never Tell You What I'm Telling You!: Desmondo makes it clear that he will not tell Puss that Ignacio has giant egg-shaped jewels.
- Mama Bear: Zapata shows to be very protective of Esme, having judged Sally to be dangerous she went to great lengths to convince Esme that Sally was imaginary and that she should grow up and get rid of her. Zapata even went as far as to commission a wizard to banish Sally to the Netherworld.
- Real After All: Sally had remained "imaginary" by hiding whenever anyone else showed up. It was only Senora Zapata that saw her.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Senora Zapata had gotten rid of Sally by convincing Esme that Sally was imaginary. Zapata is dead set on repeating that plan and keeps denying Sally's existence even at the protest of several other characters that can clearly see her.
- Weaksauce Weakness: Puss broke the dowsing rod trying to find catnip. Evidently it can find just about anything one can think of except for herbs.
