Directed by: Douglas Lovelace

Written by: Doug Langdale

Puss in Boots' mentor El Guante Blanco has come to San Lorenzo to retire. Not content to let his hero become crippled by old age, he sets out to find the fountain of youth to return him to his prime.

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: El Guante Blanco refers to Puss as "Ginger" exclusively.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Puss thought the Fountain of Youth was a myth.
  • Blatant Lies: As Puss and the group were leaving, Sphinx wakes up thinking they are entering and says her usual line. When Puss clarifies they are leaving and accuses her of sleeping on the job, she replies.
Sphinx: [beat while her eyes are looking around] Nnnoooooooo.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Releasing the powers of a magic fountain is shown to create a rather large and forceful burst of magical energy. When Puss and Guante can't handle Callista, Guante defeats her by getting real close and then releasing his youth.
  • Cool Sword: El Guante Blanco's rapier is identical to Puss', but featuring a gold-colored hilt and a red grip.
  • Evil Twin: Callista is the evil twin to Sphinx.
  • Fountain of Youth: The goal of the episode.
  • Got Me Doing It: Puss tries to convince El Guante Blanco they need to plan ahead and quotes a passage from the Wee Compendium of Factes and Funne to make his point the way Dulcinea would. He groans when he realized he did just that.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Realizing he can defeat foes by outsmarting them instead of just overpowering them gives El Guante Blanco the motivation to put off his retirement and continue adventuring.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Once his youth is restored, all El Guante Blanco wants to do is rush mindlessly into battle.
  • It Only Works Once: The cost of using the Fountains is you can only use its powers once. If you say "Release" and remove the powers the magic won't work again.
  • Needle in a Stack of Needles: The Fountain of Youth is in the forest of Fountainwood along with every magical fountain and they all look identical to each other. The only way to figure out which is which is to drink from them and see what happens. Dulcinea helpfully starts labeling them as they do this.
  • Precocious Crush: Dulcinea grew up reading the stories of El Guante Blanco, and admits to imagining growing up to one day marry him.
  • Ship Tease: El Guante Blanco flirts quite a bit with Dulcinea, which annoys Puss to no end, something Gaunte teases Puss about mercilessly.
El Guante Blanco: Now that Dulcinea... I think she likes me, yes?
Puss: I am certain I do not know!
Guante: Ha! You are jealous! I can tell, you are make the scrunchy face!
Puss: It's not scrunchy! This is my normal face!
    Guante: It's a little scrunchy.
