Shredder thinks he's Michelangelo after a computer malfunction, while the real Michaelangelo has been hypnotized by Master Splinter to no longer crave pizza.

Tropes

  • Amnesiac Villain Joins the Heroes: Because Bebop put the holographic program disk in backwards, Shredder gets hit with a laser that causes him to think he's Michelangelo. He speaks in Surfer Dude slang, is obsessed with pizza, somehow knows where the Lair is and is willing to help fight evil.
  • Animation Bump: The animation gets slightly more fluid when Shredder (with Michelangelo's mentality) struts into the Turtles' lair with several stacks of pizza.
  • Big "SHUT UP!":
Bebop: (watching the static on the computer) It looks just like Christmas time at the state pen.
    Shredder: QUIET!
  • Capture and Replicate: Krang's plan is to replace the President with a hologram using an advanced synthesizer.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Shredder entering the current lair for the episode causes a big mess. He berates Bebop and Rocksteady, saying that they told they would clean it up. They respond it was clean before Shredder messed it up, but refuse to accept responsibility.
  • Explosive Overclocking: Because of how advanced it is, when the turtles put Shredder's hologram program into April's desk-computer, it self-destructs.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: A nearly one-sided variation, with Shredder thinking he is Michaelangelo, while the real Michaelangelo has been hypnotized by Master Splinter to no longer crave pizza, resulting in his personality changing quite a bit. Of course after Shredder is back to normal, Splinter reverts Michaelangelo back into his gluttonous state.
  • Heroic BSoD: Michelangelo, when he tries to order pizza. First he couldn't make up his mind on what toppings he wants, when the owner suggests "with the works" Michelangelo was about to say yes when he recalls "I crave pizza no more".
Rocksteady: What a pity! He won't even get to enjoy his last pizza!
  • Irony: While in disguise, Michelangelo can't decide on what toppings he wants. The owner says he's "slower than a toitle."
  • Latex Perfection: When the Turtles wear their bald human rubber masks, Shredder wears one (over his helmet) as well combined with a Conspicuous Trenchcoat when he accompanies the other Turtles to see April. It even moves briefly despite his faceplate being in the way.
  • Literal-Minded: Michelangelo tells Bebop and Rocksteady to "put a sock in it" with their annoying singing ("We caught us a toitle!"). Then Bebop shoves an actual sock into Michelangelo's mouth.
Bebop: You put a sock in it!
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: When Shredder was switched back to Michelangelo, he destroys the synthesizer. Bebop and Rocksteady think Shredder is a "toitle in disguise".
Shredder: (permanently returned back to his old self) What happened to my beautiful synthesizer?!
[Bebop and Rocksteady jump on him]
    Bebop: Great disguise.
Rocksteady: Yeah, but not good enough to fool us!
Shredder: Ahh, you idiots! What are you doing?!
  • Never Say That Again: They don't say Shredder's name around him or he'll change back to his old self. So they call him Michelangelo, and when they mention their arch-enemy they refer to him as "you know who".
  • Oh, Crap!: Michelangelo, when he realize he left his nunchucks back at the Lair.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: The episode starts with Michelangelo eating all the pizza again. Which is becoming a big problem, so Splinter is forced to use his Kung Pow technique to get him to stop eating pizza.
  • Pet the Dog: "Michelangelo, you shall crave pizza once again."
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Michelangelo, while Shredder (thinking he's Michelangelo) is staying at the Lair.
  • The Scottish Trope: Splinter invokes this while Shredder is hypnotized into believing he's Michelangelo. He orders the turtles to not mention his name until they figure out what he is up to.
  • Thick-Line Animation: This being animated by Wang Film Productions, it pops up from time to time, such as when Shredder struggles in the Turtles' arms in their lair.
  • Trigger Phrase: Shredder was hypnotized into going between his and Michelangelo personalities whenever he would hear their names. However, Shredder was reverted to normal and it might have canceled the hypnosis.
  • Unreliable Illustrator: The quality of the art and animation fluctuate far more than usual this episode, with the Turtles' faces going through multiple permutations within a single scene and Splinter's snout changing lengths often.
