Recap / Teen Titans Go S 7 E 18 Batmans Birthday Gift

Go To

Robin, whose past birthday gifts for Batman have always failed to reach their destination, asks the other Titans to help him personally deliver one.

Tropes:

  • Bankruptcy Barrel: After getting mistaken for rodeo clowns after their encounter with some actual clowns, Robin ends up getting his clothes torn apart by a bull and forced to wear just a barrel with suspenders.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The rodeo bull, which Starfire named Lactose, ends up saving the day when the Titans are cornered by the clowns after they peeked into Raven's dropped spell book and were transformed into monsters hunting them down in a forest.
  • Frozen Face: After being kicked out of the bus after fighting with clowns and kicked out of the rodeo they got roped into after being mistaken for clowns, the Titans try to win a funny face competition in order to win a car and drive to Gotham. However, Cyborg, the winner, ends up with his face stuck looking funny for the rest of the adventure.
  • Hope Spot: The Titans manage to win a brand new car in the funny face competition...only to learn it'll take a month for it to be delivered, which doesn't help them reach Gotham that day.
  • How We Got Here: The episode starts with the Titans dressed like rodeo clowns and running through a dark forest for their lives, before Robin pauses the scene and starts narrating what led to that.
  • Non-Ironic Clown: The Titans bump into a group of these on their way to a convention in Gotham City while going to deliver Batman's gift, but end up on their bad side when Beast Boy splashes water in the head clown's face.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The Tians do end up successfully reaching the Batcave at the end of the episode, only to learn that Batman is celebrating his birthday out-of-town and has left a note for any "Pals" of his to not leave any gifts there for him. However, Robin is ecstatic, as he interprets the note left for any visitors as Batman, whose respect he craves, calling him his Pal.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Robin's motivation for going out of his way to hand-deliver a gift is to earn Batman's respect.
