Recap / Teen Titans Go S 1 E 27 Books

Go To

  • Art Shift: One scene has Robin, Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy find a comic book that they immediately decry as not counting as a real book, during which panels are shown depicting them in their designs from Marv Wolfman and George Perez's The New Teen Titans.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The contents of the books that manifest to battle the Titans include The Invisible Man, PINOCCHIO, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN and PELICANS.
  • "Reading Is Cool" Aesop: The obvious message of the episode before the cynical punchline.
    • It may be worth mentioning that two seasons later in "I'm the Sauce", most of the Titans spend a rainy day reading and Robin "has to" yell at them to do something else.
  • Reviews Are the Gospel: Or anyway, Raven's criticism of her book when she tries to start a book club threatens to take the fun out of reading.
  • Self-Deprecation: Robin, Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy speak ill of comic books and state that they aren't real books. Keep in mind that this cartoon is a spinoff of another cartoon that was itself adapted from a comic book.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: In a dedicated effort to "take the fun out" of their reading, the Titans talk about the books in overly-academic language, negative and positive, and apparently lose their imaginations.
  • Spoof Aesop: After being straightforward and overblown about the obvious "Reading Is Cool" Aesop, they end up concluding that reading is dangerous and then stand there not saying or doing anything for an awkwardly long time.
  • Suspension of Disbelief: Beast Boy's way of taking the fun out of The Invisible Man is a snooty-sounding claim that the basic premise is beyond belief.
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: Beast Boy digs one up in the yard looking for more books, setting off the fight at the end.
  • "What Now?" Ending: The episode ends with the Titans standing in silence for a long amount of time.
