Matty and Susan go to couples therapy. When Matty decides the therapist is far too biased, he assigns Ted to be their therapist, leading to an unknown depth being awoken in Susan.
- Can't Take Criticism: Matty assumes that anyone who points out any of his flaws, even if they do so gently, is "ganging up" on him and refuses to listen. Ironically, the only person he trusts to give him a fair opinion is Ted.
- Everyone Has Standards: Ted instantly regrets his harsh rant towards Erin once he learns of her brother's murder.
- Hidden Depths: Susan is revealed to be taking pottery classes and is a qualified teacher.
- Horrible Judge of Character: Blaire assumes Susan is forced into the role of a housewife after Matty forced her to give up her dreams when it was Susan's own choice to do so.
- New Job Episode: Susan becomes a teacher at John's high school for a day, before quitting after she realizes it isn't for her and she prefers being a mother and housewife.
- Pass the Popcorn: Ted and John eat tortilla chips while watching the argument between Blaire and Matty.
- Waxing Lyrical: Matty complaining about the therapist he and Susan went through turns into a brief cover of Bryan Adams once he explains that the therapist said he is selfish.Matty: Everything I do, I do it for you.
Ted: [getting an idea] Wait, so you're saying, "you can't tell me it's not worth tryiing for"?
Matty: Exactly.
John: Like, "I can't help it. There's nothing I want more".
Matty: See? You know it's true.
Ted: Oh, my god!
John: Fucking shit, I can't believe he said it.
