"Town Hall"

Glenn nervously prepares for a town hall with Cloud 9 CEO, Neil Penderson, which will be broadcast across all Cloud 9 stores. However, Amy and Jonah plan to use the event to reveal the unfair reasoning behind Myrtle's firing.

Tropes:

  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Jeff reminds Neil of the time Jeff got Neil coffee and Jeff drank tea. Neil doesn't just forget about that time, he doesn't even recognize Jeff.
  • Continuity Nod: Laurie's board of banned subjects at the town hall includes "Cup-farting videos" and "Rat videos," referencing the embarrassing Cloud 9 videos that went viral in "Viral Videos."
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Jeff betrays the store employees so he can get a promotion to corporate, earning him the ire of the entire store.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kelly freaks out the insane Carol by suggesting they plant meth on Jonah and and kidnap his brothers for revenge.
  • Holding the Floor: Several parts of the plan require characters talking at length to keep others occupied.
    • When Jonah tries to get Laurie's email from her phone, Amy distracts Laurie by asking her weird questions, like whether she's a lesbian.
    • Dina distracts a security guard by blabbing about veganism while Sandra (badly) works the forklift to get Jeff into the store.
    • Dina prevents the town hall from ending before Jonah and Amy come through to prove Cloud 9's corruption by asking a very slow and long question and singing "Danny Boy."
  • Human Mail: Sandra and Dina sneak Jeff into Cloud 9 by packing him in a box. They almost forget to add air holes until Dina aggressively punches some in. He also gets thrown around a lot as Sandra can't work the forklift very well.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Jonah and Amy have sex in the photocopy room. Little do they know that the security camera is still running, and their sex is being internationally broadcast.
  • Malicious Misnaming: After Neil Penderson foils their plan, Glenn calls him "Neil Farterson" for supposedly farting onstage.
  • Missing Steps Plan: Amy and Jonah pitch a plan where they steal Laurie's incriminating email revealing the plans to fire all the elderly workers, then get Jeff into the store to reveal it. The other employees question how they're going to get the email and get Jeff through security, and what to do if Laurie or Neil recognize him. Amy and Jonah admit those are the parts of the plan they haven't figured out.
  • Right Behind Me: A variant. Dina badmouths Jeff seemingly without knowing he's listening in on the intercom, though she stands by her insults. Later, Marcus mentions how much Myrtle sucks, only to learn that Myrtle is also listening in on the intercom.
  • Toilet Humor: Glenn farts during his speech and blames it on the CEO to prevent people from laughing, leading to an argument between them over who really farted. Garrett cracks a smile at this. Glenn later calls him "Neil Farterson."
