The one where Jack and Victor go on dates. Broadcast 20th September 2002.
Jack plucks up the courage to chat up Barbara, the lovely lady who runs the charity shop in the town. The two end up spending so much time together, that Victor feels he is left out to dry. Meanwhile, Winston is barred out the Clansman.
Tropes:
- Actually Pretty Funny: Rather than be annoyed when a disguised Winston reveals himself whilst being barred, Boabby finds the ruse amusing and deliberately tricked Winston in order to reveal himself. Furthermore, Boabby lets Winston back in the pub.
- Bedmate Reveal: In The Stinger, Winston wakes up in bed with Edith beside him.
- Black Widow: Played with. Isa has something she needs to tell Victor about Barbara in order to discourage Jack from seeing Barbara anymore. Victor immediately and offhandedly guesses that Barbara is this.
- Cannot Talk to Women: Jack has a hard time chatting up Barbara despite clearing taking a fancy to her. It takes for Victor to give Jack a pep talk and even then Jack can only manage the words "Go out?" Luckily, it pays off for Jack.
- Continuity Snarl: In this episode, it is revealed that Jack's wife Jean died ten years before and that Victor's wife, Betty, has been dead for twelve years. In a later episode, Brief, the tombstones read that Jean died in 1991 and Betty died in 1993. It is unknown what set of dates are correct.
- Running Gag: This is the first time where a character (Winston) wakes up in bed with Edith. Edith would go on to do the same with Boabby and later Isa.
