SpongeBob looks up to the newest celebrity in town, Kenny the Cat, who can hold his breath for an incredible period of time, only to discover he’s a fraud.

"Kenny the Cat" contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Sandy is nothing short of relentless trying to expose Kenny's secret and ruining his new life, claiming it was because cats and squirrels were sworn enemies. The very last line of the episode (and mind you, this is after she deliberately ripped his airsuit to make sure he went back) makes this trope clear, implying it was all a misunderstanding on her end:
Sandy: Never trust a cat. (she suddenly assumes a confused look) ...Or is it a dog?
  • An Aesop: Not everyone is who they say they are. What they claim to do, they actually can’t.
  • Animals Not to Scale: Kenny is about the same size as the Bikini Bottomites; cats in real life are much larger than that.
  • Aside Glance: SpongeBob does this after finding the truth about Kenny.
SpongeBob: You know, I should really talk about this with someone, otherwise I might get depressed.
  • Broken Pedestal: SpongeBob becomes devastated when he discovers that Kenny has been using an oxygen tank for breathing, proving Sandy's point that land mammals can't go through a long time without oxygen.
  • Continuity Nod: Possibly, but when Sandy tells SpongeBob that no air breather can hold their breath for such a long time, she includes herself in that and cringes for a moment. Seems like she still has bad memories of her stunt in "Pressure".
  • The Dissenter Is Always Right: Sandy is the only one who doesn't believe that the eponymous Kenny is capable of holding his breath underwater for days on end. She turns out to be correct when SpongeBob catches Kenny using an oxygen tank in the men's room.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Sandy actively destroyed Kenny's alibi and his shot at a new identity... because she mixed up who, as a squirrel, she was supposed to avoid.
  • Fantastic Racism: Sandy thinks that cats are scoundrels and can't be trusted. The last line of the episode makes it clear she may have mixed them up with dogs, and thus she may have just ruined someone's new life over a simple misunderstanding.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Inverted when SpongeBob called Sandy "Sandra" in one scene.
  • Loony Fan: SpongeBob acts like one to the point that he scares Patrick.
  • Only Sane Man: Sandy is the only Bikini Bottomite who doesn't believe Kenny can hold his breath that long. She turns out to be correct when SpongeBob saw Kenny using an oxygen tank to breathe.
  • Special Guest: Biz Markie (rapper known for the song "Just a Friend") as the titular cat.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: What Kenny the Cat is known for.
  • Too Good to Be True: SpongeBob realizes that Sandy was right when she told him earlier that mammals can't hold their breath for a long period of time when he saw Kenny using an oxygen tank to breathe. It really was too good to be true.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Both SpongeBob and Patrick are shown camping out the night before Kenny's arrival; however, Patrick gets creeped out by SpongeBob's Kenny obsession when they paint their faces to look like Kenny, and promptly flees the scene. Patrick is never seen again after that.

Mr. Krabs' scary story about a Yeti Krab that eats lazy employees like Squidward causes SpongeBob to work in overdrive.

"Yeti Krabs" contains examples of:

  • Accidental Truth: Mr. Krabs tries to scare Squidward and SpongeBob (but mostly Squidward) into working harder by making up a story about a Yeti Krab who tracks down and eats lazy workers. A real Yeti Krab shows up by coincidence and tries to eat them, albeit not for being lazy, but because he's hungry.
  • Breather Episode: As a precursor to "SpongeBob You're Fired!", since it's the last standard 11-minute episode of the post-first movie era (seasons 4-9A).
  • Buffy Speak: Mr. Krabs apparently isn't familiar with the word "squeegee", simply calling it a "window wiper".
  • Callback: One to Gift of Gum, since SpongeBob found gums under the table and he turns them into a giant gumball and asks Mr. Krabs he can give it to Patrick.
    • There is also a reference to "Can You Spare a Dime?" When SpongeBob says, "Squidward and I are as close as brothers!," it refers to the quote "'Cause you and me... we're like brothers, only closer" that SpongeBob says in the episode "Can You Spare a Dime?"
  • Contrived Coincidence: The reason for a Yeti Krab showing up after Mr. Krabs's warning, which is lampshaded by the time card.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Squidward comes to think that Mr. Krabs scaring SpongeBob into working like crazy by dressing up as a Yeti Krab is something even he doesn't deserve. This doesn't convince him to help him, mind you; if anything, he's contributing to the problem, since Mr. Krabs told SpongeBob his efforts won't matter since Squidward is so lazy, the Yeti Krab would be attracted by his smell regardless of however much work SpongeBob did.
  • Growling Gut: The Yeti Krab has this due to hunger. His stomach can be seen yelling to be let out so he can go find his own food.
  • Lazy Bum: Squidward, who doesn't do much in this episode until he tried to stop Yeti Krabs.
  • Misspelling Out Loud: Mr. Krabs complains that because Squidward's not working, he's losing M-U-N-E-E.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: Squidward believes that the Yeti Krab that enters the restaurant is just Mr. Krabs trying to scare them into working. When he tries to yank the Yeti Krab's head off, Mr. Krabs walks in.
  • Real After All: Squidward believes there's no such thing as a Yeti Krabs but just then by sheer coincidence, it shows up at the Krusty Krab. He thought it was Mr. Krabs dressed as the yeti.
  • Workaholic: SpongeBob, who basically did all the cleaning at the Krusty Krab. Squidward doesn't exactly help, as part of the reason he's working so hard is that Mr. Krabs suggests that because the Yeti Krab will smell anyone close to someone lazy, any work SpongeBob does will be All for Nothing, because Squidward's smell would still rub off on him due to their proximity.
