Swimming Fools

Original air date: 8/8/2023 (produced in 2022)

When Squidward is invited to SpongeBob's swimming pool, he couldn't think of anything less he'd rather do — until he sees just how much fun it actually is. Now he has to sneak into the pool without his neighbors finding out.

"Swimming Fools" contains examples of:

  • Body Inflation Gag: After mistaking Squidward for a pool toy, Patrick blows air into him, making Squidward as big as a flotation device.
  • High-Dive Hijinks: Squidward goes on SpongeBob's adjustable diving board. However, Patrick cranks it too high and the diving board takes Squidward all the way into orbit. Upon realizing this, Patrick tries to move it back down, but ends up breaking the crank and the diving board flies back down with Squidward still hanging onto it.
  • Hold Up Your Score: After Patrick breaks the crank for the adjustable diving board and Squidward promptly falls into the pool, SpongeBob and Patrick each hold up a sign with a score. SpongeBob holds up a 10 while Patrick holds up a G.
  • How We Got Here: The episode begins with Squidward lying face down in a pool and his narration explaining how he got there.
  • Nobody Here but Us Statues: Squidward hides from SpongeBob and Patrick in the pool shed by pretending to be one of the pool toys. Unfortunately, the pool toy they choose to play with is Squidward.
  • Overly Long Gag: A Gross-Up Close-Up of Squidward screaming is held on screen for 10 straight seconds.
  • Shout-Out: The episode opens with Squidward floating motionless in a pool, narrating that he always wanted a pool, and he got one. This scenario is a reference to Sunset Boulevard, which starts with a similar line as the body of a man is discovered floating in a pool.

The Goobfather

Original air date: 8/9/2023 (produced in 2022)

Mr. Krabs adds a new ice cream dish to the menu, only to find himself in an escalating war against the Goofy Goober's manager, the Goobfather.

"The Goobfather" contains examples of:

  • And Your Little Dog, Too!: After Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob sabotage the Goobfather's business, the latter yells after them, "I'll get you, Krabs! And your little sponge too!"
  • Aside Glance: After adding patty whips to the menu, Mr. Krabs looks at the viewers and adds, "Aavailable for a moderately exorbitant upcharge." before winking.
  • Brain Freeze: SpongeBob cries out that he has a brain freeze after getting ice cream thrown on his face.
  • Character Check: The Ice Cream King's authority over ice cream from "Patrick's Coupon" returns after being absent from "The Nitwitting" and "SpongeBob on Parade". Here, he calls off Mr. Krabs and the Goobfather's fight in favor of wanting ice cream to be shared with everyone.
  • Edible Ammunition: During the fight between the Krusty Krab and the Goobfather, cannons and slingshots filled with ice cream are fired at each other.
  • Fat Bastard: The Goobfather, who uses intimidation and goons to harass the Krusty Krew just for giving The Goofy Goober new competition in the ice cream business.
  • Idiot Ball: Mr. Krabs hires security to fight off the Goobfather's two muscular goons, which end up being Old Man Jenkins and Old Man Walker. He's clearly confident that they'll be able to kick the goons out, but of course, the two old men don't stand a chance. Why exactly Krabs would think they of all people are the best choice is unexplained.
  • Mugged for Disguise: SpongeBob and Krabs mug a waiter in order to steal his uniform and disguise themselves.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode title is a reference to The Godfather.
  • Riding the Bomb: The Ice Cream King rides his ice cream bomb down on Bikini Bottom.
  • Shout-Out: The Ice Cream King riding his bomb is a reference to Dr. Strangelove.
  • We Need a Distraction: SpongeBob distracts the Goobfather and his goons by playing the spoons.
