Hot Crossed Nuts

Original air date: 6/20/2023 (produced in 2022)

When Sandy's homemade smoking barbeque nuts become a hit at the Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs decides to sell them.

"Hot Crossed Nuts" contains examples of:

  • Ash Face: A few customers get ash on their faces from the fire breathing caused by the barbeque nuts.
  • Bully Hunter: The Krabby Patties being slowly replaced by the barbeque nuts not only pushes SpongeBob out of the kitchen, but he spirals into depression. Mr. Krabs sees this, and callously throws out a batch of Krabby Patties right in front of him and Sandy. Infuriated by this treatment, Sandy retaliates by taking her delicacy off the menu at the worst possible time.
  • Continuity Nod: This isn't the first time a new food item threatened to take krabby patties off the menu.
  • Double Entendre: Much of the episode is spent talking about nuts:
    • SpongeBob is horrified at how Sandy is bringing her own food to the Krusty Krab. Sandy laughs it off, opening her space suit so she can eat her barbeque nuts. Her swimsuit is visible underneath it, and she teasingly tells SpongeBob "I won’t spill the nuts if you won't!"
    • When Bubble Bass's butt has a news ticker with a review on it, a customer shouts "This guy's butt loves those nuts!"
    • SpongeBob, forced outside in the garbage, toasts some Krabby Patty buns over a fire.
  • Extreme Omnivore: When there are no more barbeque nuts, the customers resort to eating parts of the Krusty Krab due to the smoke from the nuts flavoring everything inside.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Anyone who eats the barbeque nuts ends up breathing fire out of their mouths.
  • Kick the Dog: Mr. Krabs puts a perfectly good batch of Krabby Patties in a trash can, in front of SpongeBob, who is already despondent about the barbeque nuts forcing him out of the kitchen. It’s this act which prompts Sandy to resign.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • SpongeBob reacts this way when he sees Sandy brought her own lunch to the Krusty Krab, which is a big no-no for Mr. Krabs.
    • Sandy and Mr. Krabs are shocked at the sight of a disheveled SpongeBob sitting in the trash. Mr. Krabs gets over it. Sandy doesn’t.
  • Running Gag: Squidward getting Ash Face.
  • Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: SpongeBob has these when he hears that Sandy brought food from home to eat at the Krusty Krab.

Sir Urchin and Snail Fail

Original air date: 6/21/2023 (produced in 2022)

SpongeBob and Patrick try to reunite their favorite comedy duo after the pair have a falling out on live television.

"Sir Urchin and Snail Fail" contains examples of:

  • Actually, I Am Him: Patrick takes a taxi to Sir Urchin's house only to find out that his driver IS Sir Urchin.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Sir Urchin and Snail Fail's catchphrases ("Why you!" and "What'd I do?" respectively) are borrowed a few times throughout the episode:
    • Patrick repeats "What'd I do?" while imitating Snail Fail as he reminisces to Sir Urchin on how funny the comedy duo used to be. This prompts Sir Urchin to make Patrick Snail Fail the Second, but when Patrick tries to take up the job later on in the episode, he can't actually get the catchphrase right, repeatedly flubbing it even when Sir Urchin points out Patrick's mistake.
    • An old lady who appears throughout the episode repeats "Why you!" and "What'd I do?" for seemingly no reason while going after the characters.
    • At the end of the episode, SpongeBob and Patrick both exclaim "Why, you!" after Sir Urchin and Snail Fail both hit the former two with mallets, prompting the latter two to say, "What'd we do?"
  • Classically-Trained Extra: Snail Fail, whose only role on the show is to be an idiot who keeps smashing Sir Urchin with heavy objects, is actually quite philosophical and wants to do Shakespearean acting instead.
  • Continuity Nod: The other performers at the Bikini Bottom talent show (the didgeridoo player from "Something Smells", a member of Boys Who Cry, Kelpy G, Mister Weiner from "SpongeBob You're Fired", and the crocodiles from "Swamp Mates") are characters who have been seen in previous episodes.
  • Dark Reprise: After SpongeBob makes it clear that Sir Urchin and Snail Fail have actually broken up and it's not just an act, he and Patrick sing a sad rendition of The Sir Urchin and Snail Fail Show theme song.
  • The End: The episode ends with an end card featuring Sir Urchin and Snail Fail.
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: Sir Urchin is a taxi driver when Patrick finds him, which Sir Urchin states is because times have been tough since he and Snail Fail broke up five minutes ago.
  • Funny Character, Boring Actor: An In-Universe example. On stage, Snail Fail is Sir Urchin's Bumbling Sidekick who always bashes him with blunt objects as part of their slapstick routine. Right in the middle of their performance, Snail Fail is revealed to be a dramatic actor who wants their act to be more serious.
  • Mangled Catchphrase: When Patrick tries to be "Snail Fail the Second," he keeps flubbing Snail Fail's catchphrase ("What'd I do?") by saying "What me do?" instead. When Sir Urchin points this out, Patrick tries to say it right, but still messes up, this time saying "Where I go?"
  • Medium Blending: The audience in Sir Urchin and Snail Fail's show is made up of live-action people.
  • Never Mess with Granny: SpongeBob and Snail Fail are chased offstage by an old lady from the retirement home. She shows up later to do the same to SpongeBob and Patrick, and then again at the very end to SpongeBob, Patrick, Sir Urchin, and Snail Fail.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: Sir Urchin and Snail Fail break up in the middle of their performance due to Snail Fail wanting to add some seriousness to their act.
  • Wham Line: Snail Fail's Shakespearean monologue about the repetitive nature of his and Sir Urchin's show ends up surprising everyone, since up until this point Snail Fail had been portrayed as little more than Sir Urchin's Bumbling Sidekick.
Snail Fail: "Why, you!" indeed. Why not any of us? If the nature of the universe is random, would not misfortune find us all equally? And yet it does not. Perhaps you should stop asking "why you," and start asking "why me?"
  • "You!" Exclamation: After Snail Fail finds out that Sir Urchin is at the talent show, they both exchange a "You!" while angrily pointing at each other.
