Plankton's Intern

Original air date: 4/30/2021 (produced in 2019)

Plankton decides to hire an intern, who ends up being Pearl. Plankton decides to take advantage of her blood relation to Mr. Krabs in order to get to the Krusty Krab Secret Formula.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Brick Joke: When Patrick attempts to become Plankton's intern, he ends up being accidentally cloned many times. At the very end of the episode after he has been foiled, Plankton reluctantly hires the army of Patricks, much to Karen's confusion when she returns home.
    Plankton: Don't ask...
  • Call-Back: Plankton is still afraid of whales. His phobia is played far more comically whenever it comes up this time, though.
  • Exact Words: Pearl follows Mr. Krabs's words that "the boss always knows best" to a T, to the point that she goes along with Plankton's heist at the Krusty Krab.
  • Negative Continuity: The episode implies that Plankton has never met Pearl before (or, at the very least, wasn't aware she was Mr. Krabs's daughter), despite having interacted with her a number of times, often with Mr. Krabs, in the past (most notably, and infamously, in "One Coarse Meal").
  • Poor Communication Kills: It doesn't take until the end of the episode until Mr. Krabs realizes (to his horror) that Pearl's internship is at the Chum Bucket, due to Pearl never once mentioning where she was working while at home. Mr. Krabs also misses Pearl dressed up in her burglar outfit to break into the Krusty Krab due to him being half-asleep as he knits a quilt made of dollar bills as she leaves.
  • Running Gag: Plankton forcing Pearl to clean up his failed inventions.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: At first, a large crowd of people gather at the Chum Bucket to apply for the intern job, but as soon as Plankton mentions they'll be paid with sub-minimum wage, they all leave except for Patrick.
  • Send in the Clones: Patrick's interview with Plankton ends with him ending up inside a cloning machine, creating an army of Patricks that Plankton hastily removes from the Chum Bucket (and hires back at the end of the episode).
    Patrick: Hi, I'm Patrick!
    Patrick #2: No, I'm Patrick.
    Patrick #3: Who's Patrick?
  • Sleepwalking: The episode reveals that SpongeBob sleep-cooks, as in the middle of Plankton and Pearl's heist he walks into the Krusty Krab kitchen and begins "making" Krabby Patties.
  • Take a Third Option: Rather than work for Mr. Krabs or Plankton, Pearl instead gets her father to triple her allowance.
  • Villain Episode: This episode mostly focuses on Plankton.

Patrick's Tantrum

Original air date: 2/25/2022 (produced in 2019) note

SpongeBob discovers that the sound of a bell ringing causes Patrick to go on a rampage, leading him to try to curb Patrick's behavior. Mr. Krabs takes advantage of this to profit off Patrick fighting Harry the Health Hazard, a notorious fighter who's in town.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Patrick flies into a destructive rage when he hears a bell.
  • The Bus Came Back: Patrick's parents return for this episode.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: At the end of the episode, this almost appears subverted when Mr. Star sincerely denies using a bell to condition Patrick for bath time when SpongeBob points out how it messed up Patrick. Mr. Star then reveals that he used Patrick's rubber ducky instead, which sets off Patrick once again.
  • Circling Birdies: After being knocked out, Harry the Health Hazard gets circling Patricks who say "tweet".
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Patrick, big time.
  • Hates Baths: As a little sea star, when his parents tried to get him to take a bath by ringing a bell (or in reality, a rubber duck as revealed at the end, Patrick would always have a tantrum to try to get out of it.
  • Here We Go Again!: Spoken word for word by SpongeBob when Patrick's parents reveal that they didn't ring a bell when it was time for his bath, but squeaked his rubber ducky, which turns out to set Patrick off yet again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Mr. Krabs causes numerous accidents in Bikini Bottom by using a large bell to condition customers into stopping what they're doing and getting Krabby Patties. In the end he loses the money Patrick won fighting Harry the Health Hazzard to one of Patrick's tantrums.
  • One-Man Army: During his first on-screen tantrum, Patrick manages to fight through everyone else at the Krusty Krab without a scratch.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Patrick does this when he goes into his destructive tantrums.
  • Shout-Out: Patrick's tantrum being triggered by a certain sound, and helping him win a fight, may have been taken from Punch Drunks, a Three Stooges short film from 1934.
    • Susy calls Mr. Krabs "Quasimodo" when he tries conditioning her with the bell.
    • When SpongeBob gets chimney soot on his head he imitates Ringo Starr.
