Sonic loses to a mutant creature named Dark Oak who leads an army of robots called the Metarex. At the same time, Tails and the girls find a girl named Cosmo coming to warn them about the Metarex. Despite the crew's best efforts to fight a Metarex, he gets the Planet Egg and escapes.
"A Cosmic Call" provides examples of:
- The Bad Guy Wins: Despite the heroes' best efforts at fighting a Metarex, not only does he survive without a scratch, but he also escapes with the Planet Egg.
- The Bus Came Back: Chris Thorndyke arrives in Sonic's World.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: When Cosmo tells Sonic's friends she has something important to tell him, Amy quickly demands to know what it is, believing she was after Sonic as well.
- Epic Fail: Besides mildly damaging a part of his foe, Super Sonic fails to defeat Dark Oak when he sends the seven Chaos Emeralds away, causing him to plummet down to Earth and revert back to his normal form.
- Even Evil Has Standards: When Eggman went out for a jog one week ago, he noticed Sonic unconcious on the beach, he decided to save his enemy, not knowing whether to save him or let him die.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sonic sending all of the Chaos Emeralds away at the start becomes a problem when they aren't available to use against Dark Oak.
- Ominous Crack: Some wind causes a picture of Chris with his friends to fall and break.
- Ungrateful Bastard: Even after Eggman, of all people, saved Sonic after the hedgehog fell from space, Sonic just runs off without thanking his enemy. Decoe, Bocoe, and Bokkun are all enraged with him.
- Wham Shot: Right after the 18 years old Chris manages to make his way to Sonic's world, he trips and sees his now smaller hands, making him realize much to his shock that he's back to being his 12 years old-self.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Knuckles angrily berates Sonic after realizing he scattered all seven Chaos Emeralds away.
