The Adventures of Knuckles and Hawk
Air date: July 27, 2003 (JP), January 24, 2004 (US)

This episode contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses solely on Knuckles during his time in Oriental City.
  • Badass Normal: Hawk proves himself useful when he manages to stun the E-91 Lady Ninja robot by throwing water on her when she harms Knuckles.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Right when Hawk is about to tell Knuckles the location of the missing red Emerald, Knuckles silences him for their opponents are listening through the walls with their recording device hoping to discover the emerald's site.
  • Bowdlerise: In the English dub, the label on the box that's next to Hawk when he is trapped in the alley is changed from white Chinese text into a "no fire" symbol in the English dub.
    • In the English dub, some of the Chinese text are erased from the headline in the news report and replaced with "BUILDING COLLAPSE!".
    • In the Japanese version, Eggman commented while introducing E-91 that in addition to being a driver, she was also a female guard and a sexy dancer sometimes. In the English dub, Eggman just states not to judge by appearances.
    • In the Japanese version, when discovering the speaker in the prison cell, Knuckles comments positively about the food in Oriental City, with Hawk mentioning about tons of food and that some of them are fatty. In the English dub, Knuckles talks about how cozy the prison cell is while Hawk talks about baked beans and how they were bad a few days ago.
    • In the English dub, the four seconds flashback of the Chaos Control explosion enveloping Big the Cat from "Chaos Control Freaks" was cut.
    • In the English dub, the two second flashback of Amy and Tails watching the Chaos Control explosion from "Chaos Control Freaks" was cut.
    • In the Japanese dub, the bar on the left is mainly stocked with alcohol, which is inappropriate for kids as opposed to a bar selling iconic Western food, having some shelves blank or to the glasses of recolored fruit juice/cola and a burger.
    • When the episode first aired in the English version, in the ending where Knuckles stands in front of the Master Emerald shrine, a female voice is heard, "Seven Chaos Emeralds, the mystery will be revealed". With Knuckles repeating the words and wondering what it meant. When it aired the second time, the voice is slightly different and it says, "The servers are the seven chaos." It it unknown why this change was made. note
    • Despite the English version of animes normally censor firearms, Rouge is seen holding a gun in both the Japanese and English versions.
  • But Now I Must Go: Knuckles bidding farewell to his buddy Hawk and leaves for home after successfully retrieving the red Chaos Emerald.
  • Ceiling Cling: Knuckles does this to stop himself from falling down the vent / trap door.
  • Generic Ethnic Crime Gang: The "Bruiser Boys" are a Chinese Triad-esque street gang, although they aren't explored in enough detail to fully fit the Triad mold.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Knuckles is nearly fatally electrocuted by E-91 until Hawk throws water on the robot causing her to shut down, giving Knuckles enough time to land a powerful blow with his fist and defeat her.
  • Instant Awesome, Just Add Ninja: E-91 Lady Ninja, Dr. Eggman's Robot of the Week. She actually manages to give Knuckles a good fight until Hawk shorts her out with some nearby water.
  • Kite Riding: E-91 uses one to chase Rouge.
  • Megaton Punch: Knuckles defeats E-91 by delivering a punch so strong it sends the robot flying up to the sky and disappeariing via Twinkle in the Sky.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Dr. Eggman's and his bots almost succeed in getting the red Chaos Emerald but are thwarted by Knuckles and Hawk. E-91 nearly succeeds in killing Knuckles with her electronic powers but is stopped in time by Hawk and defeated by Knuckles.
  • Shout-Out: This episode's title is a reference to the 1972 martial arts film "Fist of Fury".
  • Suddenly Shouting: Knuckles shouting into a hidden wall bug hoping to incapacitate their opponents listening:
    Hawk: Don't you think so?
Knuckles: (takes a deep breath, shouts) IT SURE WOULD!!!
