Worlds collide as Sonic and the heroic Freedom Fighters throw-down with the evil Scourge and the villainous Suppression Squad!

Tropes

  • Abdicate the Throne: After being free of Scourge's hold on the Suppression Squad, Miles offers Alicia an opportunity to rule Moebius. She decides it's not worth holding onto a "figurehead title", especially since it's implied Miles himself is considered a better leader.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: The Suppression Squad invades Mobius Prime and takes over Freedom HQ, forcing the Knothole Freedom Fighters out. This doesn't last when the Suppression Squad turn against Scourge.
  • Batman Gambit: Overwhelmed by Super Scourge, Sonic hopes that Moebius' Anarchy Beryl have a different side effect than Mobius' Chaos Emeralds. The gambit pays off as the Anarchy Beryl can give unlimited power but continuously drain the user, whereas the Chaos Emeralds have a time limit, but grants a power boost when it's reached. As a result, Scourge is too weak to continue when he is dared to change back, allowing Sonic to beat him without lifting a finger.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Despite his invasion and takeover of Freedom HQ, nobody outside of the Freedom Fighters considers Scourge a threat to be taken seriously, especially in comparison to Eggman. Indeed, Scourge is nearly defeated by Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, the latter of whom was literally put together by Eggman at the last minute.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Scourge is defeated and turned in to the No Zone Cops, but they refuse to capture Eggman since his presence balances things in Sonic' dimension after the previous Robotnik's untimely demise. The Suppression Squad return to their dimension to recuperate and makes plans to get back at the Freedom Fighters. The Freedom Fighters themselves prepare for a long-awaited battle against Eggman, while Eggman himself prepares his newest weapon.
  • Clone Angst: An example not with clones, instead alternate universe counterparts, but still the same in principle. Scourge hates being recognized as merely a copy of Sonic, so he goes to great lengths to return to Anti-Mobius, force changes on the entire world and make their world more than just a Mirror Universe of Mobius Prime. Among other things, the planet is now called "Moebius," the Anti-Freedom Fighters are now the Suppression Squad, etc. Even after his defeat, Scourge declares himself a "Sonic the Hedgehog at his fullest potential", not held back by friends or morals.
  • Enemy Mine:
    • Because they never did like Scourge, even back when he was just Anti-Sonic, Miles (the Anti-Tails) suggests this, with the Suppression Squad teaming up with the Freedom Fighters to deal with their "king".
    • Sonic and Amy track down Amy's Anti self, Rosy the Rascal, said by Ivo Kintobor (the Anti-Robotnik) to have "hate" Scourge more than anyone. While they don't team up due to her insanity, they do take advantage of the chaos when Scourge is sent near her. They also team up with Buns, the Anti-Bunnie, after she was kicked out of the Suppression Squad.
      • Things get even more hectic when Silver, Shadow, Rob O' the Hedge, and even Metal Sonic join in. Sonic convinces them all to face Scourge together but, when he goes Super, Metal focuses on Sonic, forcing Shadow to warp them both into the Sonic X universe.
  • Eviler than Thou: The Council of Acorn are firmly convinced that Eggman is the greater evil than Scourge, and refuse to let the Freedom Fighters retake Freedom HQ in favor of focusing on their ongoing preparations to invade Eggman's city. Their reasoning is vindicated when Eggman overwhelms and nearly defeats Scourge using Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, the latter of which he literally put together and sent out on the fly.
  • Eye Scream: Patch remarks that his eyepatch "used" to be just for show, implying that Scourge went so far as to gouge his eye out just to differentiate him from Antoine Prime.
  • Hypocrite: Sonic calls Fiona out for her loyalty to Scourge, despite frequently complaining about her trust issues. She had previously told Tails that he can't rely on anyone, so Sonic wonders why she trusts his jerkass double so much.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While the Freedom Fighters are annoyed and outraged when the Council refuse to let them take Freedom HQ back from Scourge and the Suppression Squad in favor of focusing on the continuing assault on Eggman, they make the point that Scourge isn't much of a threat and, even if he conquered Moebius, couldn't possibly make any gains on Mobius as quickly. Their reasoning is vindicated when Scourge is attacked by Metal Sonic, along with a Metal Scourge that Eggman literally put together and sent after him at the last minute, and nearly defeated.
  • Karma Houdini: The Suppression Squad actually gets away scott-free since they were forced by Scourge to invade Mobius. Of all of the members, this includes Patch, the Anti-Antoine, who was previously responsible for murdering Antoine's father during their switch, damaging his relationship with Bunnie, and nearly murdering Sally's father Maximilian Acorn.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Sonic's thoughts as to why Fiona still maintains her loyalty to Scourge, despite the two of them having put both the Freedom Fighters and the Suppression Squad on their radar. Not surprisingly, though Fiona tried to deny it, Sonic wasn't wrong (as the entire reason Fiona betrayed the Freedom Fighters was because of her relationship with Scourge).
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Both the Freedom Fighters and the Suppression Squad when they discover Scourge has gone Super.
  • Mêlée à Trois: The Hedgehog Havoc storyline, issues 195-196, has all available hedgehogs in one spot on Moebius, leading to a chaotic fight until Sonic invokes an Enemy Mine against Scourge:
    • Sonic and Amy (accompanied by Buns) track down Rosy the Rascal to join in their fight against Scourge, but she's too mentally unstable to be an ally and attacks them. She then fights Scourge when the Suppression Squad sends him at her feet.
    • Silver arrives in hopes of finding a traitor in Knothole's Freedom Fighters, and believes Sonic is a prime suspect. Rob O’ the Hedge, Amy's cousin, tags along.
    • Shadow is busy fighting Metal Sonic and find themselves in Moebius thanks to the former's Chaos Control.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: In the end of the arc, Sally is put on trial for ignoring orders despite the Suppression Squad being at their doorstep, leaving her leadership into question. She convinces the Council to back off and drop the charges thanks to her long history as a Freedom Fighter, almost always putting her own life on the line before others.
  • Oh, Crap!: Rosy the Rascal seems to be the only one on Moebius who gets this out of Scourge.
    • Likewise, Jules managed to give Scourge one of these expressions in the secondary story for issue 192.
  • Onrushing Army: After Sonic tells Scourge to call in reinforcements against Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, Scourge sicks the entire Suppression Squad on the two robots.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Eggman calls Snively by his real name (Colin). Snively states that no one has ever called him that since the Great War, not even his own father, and comes to the conclusion that Eggman is slipping after numerous defeats and setbacks since issue 177. Based on the doctor's latest project at the end of issue 197, it may not be a good thing just yet.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Eggman sends Metal Sonic to Freedom HQ to attack Sonic, only to find Scourge there instead. He's about to leave, only to decide to just have Metal beat up Scourge instead; Scourge's threat to take over his territories definitely helped with that.
Eggman: Why pass up one uppity hedgehog for another?
  • Police Are Useless: In issue 197, Sonic calls Zonic and the Zone Cops out over this, since despite their being Guardians of the Multiverse, they let Eggman, an alternate Dr. Robotnik, keep wreaking havoc on Mobius Prime and did nothing to stop Scourge from repeatedly attacking the Prime Zone until Sonic brought him right to them. Zonic explains that Sonic wasn't supposed to decisively defeat Robotnik, and since Eggman shares a near-identical backstory and history with Robotnik Prime, he's the best candidate to fill in for him and is needed for the Prime Zone's stability. In the case of Scourge, Zonic points out they've been under siege by Dr. Nega, and Scourge's mutation has made him a Wild Card in the cosmic scheme of things.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Miles, the Anti-Tails, though the character goes back and forth in terms of whether this trope is subverted or not, even going as far as to compliment Sonic.
Sonic: Now that's more like it! Thanks for the hand!
Miles: We seem to work surprisingly well together.
    Sonic: You could say that.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Sonic gives one to Scourge after defeating him in issue 196.
Scourge: Cheated... me... I'm... King... Conquered... This whole planet... You're... nothing...
Sonic: [swats the crown off of Scourge's head, shattering it completely] You're a bully and that's it. You take the easy, nasty way out and get the quick reward. Big whoop. I do things the right way. I help others to make something bigger and better than just mean. The good guys always win in the long run. And there isn't anybody who can run longer or better than I can.
  • Sanity Slippage: Snively suspects that Eggman is going insane after numerous defeats following Knothole's destruction. A first sign is that he called him by his real name. This slippage plays a part up to issue 200.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When Scourge and the Suppression Squad invade Mobius Prime and boot them out of Freedom HQ, the Council refuses to let them retake their base in favor of focusing on their ongoing assault on Eggman, believing that Scourge couldn't possibly make as much of a gain on their world as he did on his own. In response, the Freedom Fighters not only chase Scourge out of Freedom HQ on their own, but counter-invade Moebius to deal with him for good.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When the Freedom Fighters and Suppression Squad turn on Scourge, Fiona ends up bailing out. Scourge later learns about this and decides she was smart to do so.
  • We Can Rule Together: Scourge makes a few attempts to convince Sonic to join him in ruling both worlds but, obviously, Sonic refuses.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Rosy claimed to have used the Ring of Acorns in hopes of growing up and gaining "Scourgey's" attention. Unlike Amy, all it did was boost her power but wrecked her mind, reducing her into a Cute But Psycho berserker who will smash anyone on sight.
