It's night, and Team Sonic are at Meh Burger, enjoying another broadcast of Comedy Chimp's show. Suddenly, the power goes off, plunging the entire village into darkness. As the gang gloat about who or what caused it, Sonic immediately directs them to Eggman's lair... but surprisingly discover it isn't him after a few interrogations, and decide to ask Mayor Fink what's happened. Initially saying the blackout was expected, he is later forced to reveal the truth – the village's power source, the Meroke Crystal, has stopped functioning. Declaring that he doesn't want to go down in history as the mayor who resided over it when it broke, he gives the gang a map so they can find a replacement.

Soon enough, the gang happen to be on the snow-covered mountains not too far from town. As they march their way up and fight the forceful wind, Tails makes use of time by writing letters to his crush. When their map is blown away by the wind, they try to get hold of it, but are only sent flying back by the wind until Knuckles helps get them back up the hill. Claiming that it has a snowmobile mode, Sonic then decides to take the wheel of the Blue Force One and helps his team to their location, where they encounter a temple as well as an ancient scroll that helps them get in.

Upon entering, a Stone Guardian tells Team Sonic that they must solve a trio of riddles in order to get to the Meroke Crystal. As they overcome obstacles set by the ancients, they are able to answer the riddles (with help from Knuckles) and reach the Meroke Crystal, its spot of which Sonic exchanges for a golden statue. Suddenly, the temple begins to crumble, and the gang are ultimately forced out as it collapses. With help from the Blue Force One, they manage to make a safe escape.

Back in the village, riots have been going around since the blackout had occurred; fortunately, it calms down once Knuckles replaces the crystal, later getting credit from the rest of the team for his hard work as the rest of the villagers gather around to watch TV again.

Tropes

  • Call-Back: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy's Luminous Suits, which first debuted in "Mech Suits Me", return, as does Sonic's Blue Force One from "Strike!".
    • While hiking the snowy mountains, Tails takes time to write letters to his crush.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode is one of the rarest to focus on all five members of Team Sonic doing something.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Knuckles, of all people, somehow manages to solve all three of the riddles set by the Stone Guardians, which he later gets credit for.
  • Emergency Taxi: Sonic gets the Blue Force One into gear so that he and the rest of the team can get up the mountains quicker.
  • Escape Sequence: Sonic exchanges the replacement Meroke Crystal for a golden statue accompanied by the sound of ethereal music...which soon becomes dramatic as the temple suddenly begins to collapse, prompting Team Sonic to make a desperate escape.
  • I Can Live With That: After Team Sonic breaks down the door to Eggman's lair, the latter complains he has a doorbell for a reason before Sonic tells him the power's out. His response?
Eggman: In that case, just smash away.
  • Not Me This Time: When the blackout hits, Team Sonic almost immediately pins the blame on Eggman, but once the doctor is confronted, he claims that he isn't responsible, stating that he can't take over if he can't keep his robots charged. The gang ultimately believes this, and decide to investigate elsewhere.
  • Power Outage Plot: The village's power source, the Meroke Crystal, stops working, and Team Sonic must go and search for a replacement.
  • Power Source: The Meroke Crystal.
  • Prophecies Rhyme All the Time: The Stone Guardians ask the three riddles using various rhymes and meters (followed by a Running Gag of Sticks' opinion on each):
"To continue your journey and open this slab, tell me, how many sides does a circle have?"note
"I pass before the sun high and low, and yet, I cast no shadow."note
"Try as you might, no sound it makes; when you speak its name, it's so fragile, it breaks."note
  • Rock Monster: The Guardians of the temple are stone golems.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Most of this episode, especially the end escape scene, is a reference to Indiana Jones - right down to the music.
    • Amy guesses that Sticks will think Inspector 34 is behind the blackout.
    • The background music that plays while Sonic gets the Blue Force One up and running sounds very similar to "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf.
    • When Team Sonic gets hit by poisonous gas while they try to solve the first riddle:
Sonic: When he [Stone Guardian] said "obstacles", I was kind of hoping for Bounce Pads, not poisonous gas!
  • These Questions Three...: Team Sonic must solve three riddles to get to the Meroke Crystal.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: When Team Sonic returns to the village, the lack of electricity has caused the villagers to form an angry mob - complete with torches and pitchforks that are immediately dropped to the ground when the power comes back on.
  • Weight and Switch: Sonic exchanges the replacement Meroke Crystal for a golden statue, but it doesn’t work and the temple begins to collapse.
