It's night, and Team Sonic are at Meh Burger, enjoying another broadcast of Comedy Chimp's show. Suddenly, the power goes off, plunging the entire village into darkness. As the gang gloat about who/what caused it, Sonic immediately directs them to Eggman's lair... but surprisingly discover it isn't him after a few interrogations, and decide to ask Mayor Fink what's happened. Initially saying the blackout was expected, he is later forced to reveal the truth – the village's power source, the Meroke Crystal, has stopped functioning. Declaring that he doesn't want to go down in history as the mayor who resided over it when it broke, he gives the gang a map so they can find a replacement.
As the gang hike snowy mountains and fight the forceful wind, Tails makes use of time by writing letters to Zooey. When their map is blown away by the wind, they try to get hold of it, but are only sent flying back until Knuckles gets them back up the hill. Claiming it has a snowmobile mode, Sonic decides to take the wheel of the Blue Force One and helps his team to their location, where they encounter a temple as well as an ancient scroll that helps them get in.
Upon entering, a Stone Guardian tells Team Sonic that they must solve a trio of riddles in order to get to the Meroke Crystal. As they overcome obstacles set by the ancients, they are able to answer the riddles and reach the Meroke Crystal, its spot of which Sonic exchanges for a golden statue. Soon, the temple begins to crumble, and the gang are ultimately forced out as it collapses, but with help from the Blue Force One, they manage to make a safe escape.
