Sofia dreams of riding in the flying derby, which is why she wants to try out for the flying derby team at Royal Prep. The problem is, everyone says that flying derby is a princely thing, but that doesn't stop Sofia from trying to be the first princess on the team. But she has a hard time staying on her horse, and it's no easier with Prince Hugo, the best rider in school, making fun of her.

- Big Brother Instinct: James stands up to Hugo when the latter makes fun of Sofia. Amber starts giving him the cold shoulder after he cheats Sofia out of the race.

- Pet the Dog: Despite being a bully to Sofia and James, Hugo appears to have a soft spot for animals, as shown when he pets his horse.
- Replacement Pedestal: At the end of the episode, Amber decides she's no longer Hugo's biggest fan but Sofia's.
- Watch Where You're Going!: During the tryout race, Hugo is so surprised by Sofia getting through the steeple that he doesn't look where he's going, and when he does look straight ahead, he sees that he's flying toward a tree and barely avoids crashing into it.
