Clark and Lois investigate Chloe's death, only to be routed by Lois' father General Sam Lane, whom Clark learns has recently been in contact with Lex. Suspecting that Chloe is still alive, Lionel hires a metahuman assassin to find and kill Chloe so she can't testify against him in court.


Tropes present in the episode:

  • Action Girl: Lois reveals herself to be one in the intro, when she fights off a soldier without help from Clark.
  • Black Helicopter: Clark and Lois are chased by one in the intro, Clark uses his heat vision to force it to land.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Trent uses this against Lois and Clark.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: Trent's powers allow him to morph into metal.
  • Everyone Can See It: Lana points out the attraction between Clark and Lois. He argues the point with her, saying she's obnoxious and rude.
  • Expy: Trent is T-1000 with a different name.
  • Faking the Dead: Lex reveals he did this to Chloe to protect her from Lionel.
  • The Gadfly: Lois eagerly pops up behind a half-naked Clark to greet a shocked Martha, revealing they were both in the bathroom together, just to make the situation look as awkward as possible for Clark.
  • I Call Him "Mister Happy": When Lois teases Clark about their first meeting last episode.
    Lois: Besides, my delicate feminine sensibilities weren't offended the first time I got a glimpse of, uhm, Clark Junior.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Trent's reason for working for Lionel, who promises to help him set up a normal life once he's not in hail.
  • In the Hood: Trent wears a hooded sweatshirt.
  • Not What It Looks Like: A Funny Moment when Martha finds Clark and Lois in the bathroom together, Lois wearing Clark's shirt.
    Lois: I don't understand what the big deal is. We were just taking a shower—
    Clark: Showers, we were taking separate showers.
  • Sexy Shirt Switch: A non-sexual example, Lois wears Clark's shirt at his house, since it was the only clean thing she could find. When Martha catches her and Clark in the bathroom, she assumes the sexual one is in play.
  • Shout-Out: To Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Not only does the villain have similar powers to the T-1000, he even goes down in a similar way.
  • Shower of Awkward: Lois barges in on Clark showering since he's taking too long. He freaks out and to leaves the bathroom only to find his mom right outside the door, who naturaly assumes the worst.
  • Villain of the Week: Trent MacGowen
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jonathan gripes at Clark and Lois for snooping around a federal crime scene.
