The writer and director of Sealab with Hal.

This is a "behind the scenes" episode, the premise being a day on the Sealab 2021 'set'. Harry "Hal" Goz (Captain Murphy) is coming into conflict with the director (referred to as Miller, likely based on writer John J. Miller) because he's being upstaged by Erik Estrada (Marco) and because Erik has a trailer to himself while Hal doesn't even have a chair, deliberately botching takes in protest.

Brett Butler (Quinn) is himself pissed because the writers rewrote him to be an alien because they had problems writing for "urban" (meaning black) characters, while Ellis Henican (Stormy) and Kate Miller (Debbie) complain about their action figures, with Kate getting an additional complaint about how the writes always write Debbie in a sexist way before the two of them go to have sex.

Dolphin Boy is played by twin boys who like causing trouble and has a trailer trash Stage Mom who feeds them pills to keep them peppy and able to do takes.

Miller and writer Adam Reed discuss the script with Hal, and insult him in the process, Adam saying that he had imagined someone thirtyish and handsome for the role of captain, and also insinuating that Hal has no acting talent.

Meanwhile, Sparks's actor (credited as Bill Logan in the later episode "Return to Oblivion", really played by Bill Lobley) is conducting an interview and reveals he took the part because his guru from a Church of Happyology told him to. He is offended when the reporter calls it a cult and not a religion according to the IRS. He also admits that he never met Erik Estrada.

As Hal continues to botch the takes, he tries to take Murphy in a new direction, involving pulling away to reveal Sealab inside a snowglobe, but Miller will have none of it. As the stage mom and Miller argue over giving the twins pills, Brett knocks her out with his 'space spear'.

Finally, Miller offers Hal Adam's chair if he gets this take right. Hal is still hesitant, but Erik gives him a pep talk that inspires him. Just as the take goes well, though, they run out of film.

The Stinger: Hal wakes up in bed and shakes his wife awake, claiming he just had the weirdest dream. His unamused wife demands a divorce.
