Angie Dinkley accompanies the gang on a journey to Central America to find the Heart of the Jaguar.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Booby Trap: The Temple is loaded with them. Fortunately Trap Master Fred can identify each one before it's triggered.
  • Cast as a Mask: Doubling as a Red Herring, Kate Higgins voices his masked form to make it seem to be his jealous wife.
  • Continuity Nod: Fred remarks that he knows the temple will be full of booby traps because of the exploits of Dr. Rick Spartan.
  • Foreshadowing: Daphne and later Shaggy express concerns about whether or not the gang's bonds are genuine or the work of the Evil Entity manipulating them. Though both are pacified here, this dread will flare up in the penultimate episode when the gang confront the Evil Entity directly.
  • Latin Lover: Professor Enrique Andelusossa is Hispanic and was an old flame of Angie Dinkley before she eventually met and married Velma's father Dale.
  • Parents as People: The gang (and Velma in particular) are all a bit surprised that Angie was once young and was considered to be quite attractive. Though Fred constantly refers to her as "Mrs. Velma's Mom". Then again, Fred's parent issues make that understandable.
  • Precursor Heroes: The Hunters of Secrets are revealed to be the first mystery-solving team ever and the ones who originally sealed away the evil entity.
  • Shirtless Scene: Fred ditches in shirt in the jungle heat. Daphne comments on how he looks so hot. Oddly enough Angie and Velma never change out of their sweaters.
  • Shout-Out: The title borrows from The Night of the Hunter.
    • Raiders of the Lost Ark In the sense they're going on a archaeological quest to retrieve a magical artifact. (But instead of being a doomsday artifact, it is in fact an artifact used to DEFEAT evil.
    • Entwining vines with hostile flowers menace a party of visiting Americans at an ancient Mesoamerican pyramid a la The Ruins.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Shaggy mistakes a picture of young Angie for a picture of Velma. Likewise the locals seem to confuse them, even though there is some difference between the two.
  • Waxing Lyrical: When Angie's talking about her time with Enrique, she starts quoting Grease.
Angie: Summer flings, they don't mean a thing, but oh oh oh, those summer nights.
  • When Trees Attack: The main weapon of the Priestess.
  • Woman Scorned: Enrique's wife is NOT happy with Angie, considering her husband still has feelings for her.

Angie: Dear, is something wrong?
Velma: Well, it's just that, everything that's been happening lately, I've always thought I could count on logic; deductive reasoning, facts. But all that's gone. I never believed in the supernatural like you did, and...
Angie: Oh, sweetie, you were never wrong. Believe in yourself. Everything will work out just fine.
