Recap / Scooby Doo And Guess Who S 2 E 11 The Internet On Haunted House Hill

Go To

Shaggy and Scooby's friend, Youtuber Liza Koshy, wants to do a video with them comparing delivery pizza with frozen pizza. The only problem is, she wants to do it in the haunted Thraber manor.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Apocalyptic Log: Though nobody dies (this being Scooby-Doo), Liza shows the tendency of all protagonists in Found Footage Films to keep filming no matter what scary thing is currently happening.
  • Cast as a Mask: The pizza delivery guy and the caretaker are the same person, but the first is voiced by Matthew Lillard and the latter is voiced by Maurice LaMarche.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The house's former owner is said to have kept many treasures there and the caretaker accuses the gang of trying to loot the place. It turns out one more treasure is left in the house.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The pizza guy who keeps delivering Liza's orders turns out to be the villain.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The culprit was the caretaker/pizza guy, who barely appears onscreen.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Liza's latest series is "Liza Gets Scared into Next Thursday", and the premise is Liza visiting scary places and freaking out on camera.
  • Falling Chandelier of Doom: Done twice. The first time, Daphne drops it a bit too soon and misses the ghost. Fred manages to pull it off, bringing the chandelier and part of the ceiling down.
  • Food as Bribe: Liza bribes Shaggy and Scooby to stay and help her with the video by offering them all the pizza they can eat. This makes them agree, though she has to ply them with additional installments.
  • Get Out!: The ghost keeps screaming, "Get out!", "Leave!" and other things of the sort.
  • Ghost Butler: The Cold Opening shows the door opening for a vacuum salesman without anyone there. He's less interested in that than in how the manor's Cobweb Jungle could heighten his chances of making a sale.
  • It Belongs in a Museum: Once the mystery is solved, it turns out that the previous owner of the house took art pieces from around the world, with the last piece being a stolen Italian ceiling. When the villain gives the standard "meddling kids" speech, Liza says the ceiling belongs in a museum...in its home country.
  • Mythology Gag: The episode contains two references to Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
    • Some shrieking bats fly out of a tower towards the camera.
    • One of the photos on Liza's phone is set up to resemble one of Shaggy and Scooby's old Security Clings.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Fred runs a channel himself, dedicated entirely to traps. It's pretty clear that only he finds the subject interesting and only his mom subscribes to the channel.
  • Tempting Fate: Shaggy and Scooby choose to meet Liza for a pizza-tasting contest as their once-a-year mystery pick, believing that it can't involve any ghosts or scares. She decides to do it at a haunted house.
  • What Are Records?: When Velma says the titular house is haunted by the ghost of a guy who used to run a newspaper, Scooby asks what newspapers are.
