Recap / Scooby Doo And Guess Who S 1 E 17 Hollywood Knights

Go To

The gang arrive at the old Darrington mansion, where actor George Takei is being stalked by a ghost knight as well as legal issues while he attempts to get the place designated a historic landmark.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Big "NEVER!": George disarms the ghost knight and tells him to admit defeat. The ghost knight screams, "Never!"
  • Catchphrase: Takei's catchphrase "Oh my" comes up extremely often. Shaggy and Scooby even take turns goofing off and attempting to imitate the way he says it.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Jimmy the gardener appears in one scene in which he resigns because of the ghost of Duke Doombringer and the resulting scary happenings. He turns out to be the culprit.
  • Disguised in Drag: While he, Shaggy, and George are posing as filmmakers, Scooby poses as a Damsel in Distress in a dress and wimple. He dramatically begs the ghost knight to save him.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The gardener, Jimmy, turns out to be the villain. He had discovered the old passages and the documents by accident in the course of his duties.
  • Forging the Will: The gardener who works at the supposedly haunted mansion is trying to scare the late owner's daughter so nobody would challenge the will he forged to make himself the new owner.
  • Gardening-Variety Weapon: Jimmy the gardener attacks a suit of armor with his gardening tools after Shaggy and Scooby make it look like it's talking and therefore haunted.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: Darla Darrington, the not-entirely-stable daughter of the old owner, sings a little song about people coming to her papa's house and never leaving while jumping rope.
  • Madwoman in the Attic: While he, Shaggy, and George are cooking, Scooby finds a cackling lady in the cupboard. She turns out to be Darla Darrington, the daughter of the house's original owner. She's been living in the secret passages for years without anyone knowing. At the end of the episode, George gets her house declared a historic landmark and leaves her to it. She in turn tells him her father would have liked him.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Takei takes off his shirt while fencing with Duke Doombringer.
George Takei: Well Shaggy, when you have abs like these, it's nice to show them off once in a while.
  • Red Baron: The duke who is the villain of the piece was called Doombringer because of how bloody he was.
  • Shout-Out:
  • You Wanna Get Sued?: Takei stops Shaggy and Scooby while they're talking about his famous role, commenting that they don't say names of famous space TV franchises. He then asks if Scooby is an attorney.
