Recap / Schitts Creek S 44 Girls Night

Go To

Girl's Night

Moira tells David and Alexis about seeing Ted and Heather at the cafe. David tries to signals a clueless Moira that this isn’t the best topic of conversation and tries to downplay the significance, but an upset Alexis decides to go for a run in a day dress. An exasperated David tells Moira that she upset Alexis, and Moira is shocked to learn that Alexis is still hung-up on Ted.

Johnny finds Roland with his feet up on the motel’s front desk, and Roland says he has decided to become a team player. Roland says he’s noticed wasted space in the lobby, and it should be a place for the guests to mingle. Johnny disagrees, but Roland pulls out a beer fridge he has brought from home. He suggests selling beers to the guests, and he brags that he has already sold two. Johnny asks if the beers were sold to Roland and he says yes, and he intends to have them after lunch.

David arrives at Rose Apothecary to find Stevie and David giggling over something Patrick is reading. David reacts with mild jealously, wondering if there was a text chain he wasn’t on. They say yes. David notices that the lip balm has been moved. Patrick says he wanted to give the new mints a fighting chance so he moved them next to the cash register. This prompts an argument about whether David can compromise, and he leaves in a huff. Stevie chooses to stay with Patrick.

Moira sits at the counter at the cafe and Twyla says she will be seeing Moira that night. Alexis has told Twyla that she is taking too much time for herself and she needs to get out there. They discuss whether or not Alexis is bothered by Ted seeing Heather, and Twyla thinks she is. Moira shuts down the conversation by saying gossip is the devil’s telephone.

Johnny finds Roland in the motel lobby watching Erin Brockovich with two guests. Johnny is irritated because he said no TV, and he tells Roland he should be weeding. Roland glumly goes to weed, and Johnny asks the two guests about the film.

David arrives to Rose Apothecary and finds plungers displayed at the front door. David asks Patrick about it, and Patrick says he thought it would be a good idea given the demand for more backroom items. He also says it would be a good opportunity for David to show he can compromise. David swallows his disgust, to Stevie and Patrick’s amusement.

Twyla and Alexis primp for their evening out. Moira arrives and says they remind her of her days partying in New York. Moira offers to chauffeur the women. She gives Twyla a pep talk about being young and in her prime, which is really directed toward Alexis.

In front of the Wobbly Elm, Moria gives the two younger women advice on how to pick up men, including holding his gaze and running a finger down his back. She brags it worked on John... Cougar Mellencamp. But she went home that night with Mr. Rose instead. Moira sends the girls inside the bar and tells them to have confidence.

Johnny finds Roland playing a video game in the motel lobby, and he tells him to go home. Then, pregnant Jocelyn arrives with snacks. Johnny says that Roland was off a few hours ago, but she said that she has recently remembered how hands-on Roland can be when she’s pregnant. She says she needs some alone time, and Roland enjoys the video game with headphones. Johnny says okay.

At The Wobbly Elm, Twyla happily tells Alexis she doesn’t need a ride home because Moira’s technique works. She also points out a handsome man checking out Alexis, but Alexis leaves alone. She goes outside to call Ted, but gets his voice mail.

Patrick, Stevie and David are having drinks at the store, and Patrick is glad they sold two toilet plungers. Stevie chimes in a brush. David finally pops off and says no, no no! He admits he’s terrible at compromise, but he knows what is correct. Among other things, he says his boyfriend’s mountaineering shoes are not correct. Patrick smiles and asks, what did you just call me? Stevie leaves, taking a plunger with her while Patrick takes off his shoes because his boyfriend doesn’t like them. David kisses Patrick and tells him that sock feet are also not correct.

A drunk Moira finds Alexis by the car, and she says she got bored waiting so found a charming speakeasy at the back of the club. Alexis tells Moira about Twyla’s success, but says there was no one in there for her. Moira slurs out that there was a reason she hooked up with John Mellencamp and not Johnny Rose that night. He was there with someone else, but she knew there was something between them. She tells Alexis, that if it was meant to be, he’ll come around. Then, Alexis offers to drive and Moira slurs that would be a good idea.

Tropes that Appear in this Episode

  • Berserk Button: David just knows what is correct and what is not correct. Breath mints do not belong where the lip balm should be and toilet plungers do not belong in the front of the store, and Patrick mountaineering shoes are also not correct.
  • Big Brother Instinct: David tries to signal Moira that Alexis is upset about Heather, then tells Moira bluntly off after Alexis leaves the room.
  • Calling The Old Woman Out: Downplayed a lot, but David calls out Moira for her casual disregard of Alexis's feelings, and Moira is clearly rattled by it.
  • It's All About Me: David, like Beyoncé, excels at being a solo artist.
  • Lady Drunk: Moira might not be the best choice of a chauffeur, although her outfit is fabulous.
  • Momma's Boy: David was dressed by his mother well into his teens.
  • Relationship Upgrade: David calls Patrick his boyfriend, to Patrick's delight.
  • Running Gag: Stevie takes a plunger from the store without paying for it.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Roland is off work, but he won't leave the motel.
  • Third Wheel: Stevie knows when to excuse herself at the end.
