Max's brain was stolen during Sam's bathroom break in the last episode! Now Sam must figure out who stole Max's brain, with Skun-ka'pe being the primary suspect and get Max his brain back.

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Sam unleashes one when he sees Max without his brain and it culminates him to become Noir Sam.
  • The Jailbait Wait: In the alternate universe, Girl Stinky says she's saving herself for "Lord Sammun-Mak".
    Max: Isn't he ten?
Girl Stinky: Now. But in a few years... (growls seductively)
  • My Sensors Indicate You Want to Tap That: Inverted; Max offers to go "cruise for chicks" with Skun-ka'pe, who replies "Strange. My scans indicate you don't even like girls."
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The trailer for the episode made it sound like whoever stole Max's brain would be a mystery that Sam has to solve by interrogating people. Turns out, it's already revealed at the start that Skun-ka'pe was responsible, and Sam was just following his trail.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Sal says that his boss, Papierwaite, doesn't want to find another dead body lying around in the museum.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sam completely loses it and becomes Noir Sam and starts acting like a hardboiled detective removing his hat and coat along with becoming more aggressive.
  • Opinion Flip Flop: Sammun-mak has a habit of declaring something the greatest thing ever, then turning around and hating it the moment it inconveniences him. You have to use this fickleness to solve a few puzzles.
  • Power Born of Madness: Mr. Papierwaite claims that only "the insane, the simple, and the defective" have the Gift, explaining why most of the characters can't just use the Toys of Power themselves.
  • Private Eye Monologue: Choosing the "Noir" option during the search for Max's brain causes Sam to deliver a bitter, poetic monologue, which usually just confuses whoever he's talking to.
  • Reality Warper: Once Sammun-mak has the Devil's Toybox in his possession, he rewrites the world as a ancient Egyptian society merged with modern day, and everyone (except for Max and the Mole-People, who are immune to his influence) sees him as their glorious ruler.
  • Reflexive Remark of Reverence: Everyone in the alternate reality where Sammun-Mak has taken over the world (except Max and the mole-men) can't help but finish the traditional chants praising Sammun-Mak when they hear them. Max actually exploits this in the final puzzle to help Sam beat Sammun-Mak in a duel.
Sammun-Mak is handsome! Sammun-Mak is cute!
When we think of Sammun-Mak, we give a big salute!

Sammun-Mak is mighty! Sammun-Mak is grand!
The greatness of Lord Sammun-Mak is more than we can stand!
  • The Three Trials: In the third act of the game, you have to win three Accessories of Approval: the Pendant of Inquisition (gotten by winning a bet with Frankie the rat), the Medallion of Tithing (gotten by getting a unique gift for Sammun-mak), and the Ornament of Fealty (gotten by finding a heretic).
  • Unseen No More: Sam finally meets Sal, the previously-unseen cook at Stinky's Diner from season 2. He turns out to be a giant anthropomorphic cockroach.
    • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Sam is not surprised to learn that Stinky's had a bug in the kitchen.
Sam: How shocking! No, wait. What's the complete opposite of that?
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The C.O.P.S. are sure to give Noir Sam an earful for being so harsh with them, especially their newest member Carol.
Bob: Audiences across the country say: "You're a monster, Sam!"
    Curt: What have you become?
