Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers The Mario Documentary

Go To

Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the Mario Documentary.

A Mockumentary dedicated to the Mushroom Kingdom's most well-known "animal": Mario, whose position of dominance is challenged by Old Man Hobo.

This episode marks the first appearance of Karen.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: In the beginning of the episode, Luigi notices how he and Mario are being filmed, but Mario ends up cutting him off. At the end, Mario ends up noticing as well.
  • Call-Back: The Nintendo Switch with Super Mario Maker on it returns when Mario uses it to flood the castle.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Melony doesn't take the hint that Mario's trying to bow to her in worship, and decides that it would be fun to bow to Mario as well. The end result is both of them repeatedly bowing to each other.
David: Fascinating... what the hell is going on?
  • Failed a Spot Check: With the exception of Luigi at the beginning, no one seems to notice David and SMG4 recording Mario until the fat Italian notices them at the end of the episode.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Despite the Old Man's Hulk body, he's powerless against Meggy.
  • Non-Residential Residence: After being kicked out of his house, Mario hopes to start living in the local Starbucks. Too bad camping is only allowed on Sundays there.
  • Original Character: Introduces a new OC, a Cat Folk lady named Karen who casually whips out a shotgun on Mario and appears to hate her life if the "Too bad that didn't kill me" voiceline is any indication.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": Zigzagged. David goes back-and-forth between referring to Mario and Peach as "the Mario" and "the Peach", and their natural names.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After the Old Man punches Meggy, Mario has a worried look on his face, knowing that the Old Man is going to pay dearly for what he just did, despite asking her to take care of him in the first place.
  • Wildlife Commentary Spoof: The whole episode is framed as a David Attenborough-style documentary of Mario's life. At the end of the episode, it turns out that David really was filming Mario when Mario finally notices his presence and tries to attack him.
  • Wimp Fight: Mario and the Old Man engage in one, which David describes as "an intense battle".
