SMG3 tries to defeat the washed villan allegations

Dr. Eggman is bugged by SMG3 going soft, so he takes it upon himself to restore the former villain to his old glory. Initially, SMG3 re-embraces the dark side after a "Villain's Anonymous" meeting, but does he have what it takes to finish the final test: finally killing SMG4?

Tropes:

  • Ass Shove: While trying to rob a bank, SMG3 accidentally says "Put the money in my ass!" prompting Birdo to say "Okay!" and pull out some coins which causes SMG3 to collapse in on himself.
  • Be Yourself: A twisted variant, but SMG3 nonetheless learns he doesn't need to act evil according to what others perceive is villainy; he should be happy with who he is and embrace how he does his own evil.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Waluigi complains that he's done nothing but sell tacos since the Waluigi Arc, even pulling up the playlist for said arc for emphasis.
  • The Bus Came Back: Belle makes a cameo at the start of the episode, receiving a fish cake.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Split between SMG3, whose Villain Decay is the centerpoint of the episode, and Dr. Eggmannote , who seeks to pull him out of this decay and help him re-embrace the dark side.
  • If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!: SMG3's final test to prove his villainy? Kill SMG4.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: It was Steve's fault that SMG3 wound up being called out by Dr. Eggman and put through the whole episode by acting like an Unsatisfiable Customer over a turkey sandwich, so it's only fair SMG3 gets back at him by revealing to him he put chicken in the sandwich the second time Steve comes to complain.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: What SMG3 settles on at the end of the episode. His friendships with SMG4 and company have turned him away from straight up villainy, but being a jerk to people is still a source of amusement for him (like ruining SMG4's Bob the Tomato meme). His fight with Eggman at the end also shows his willingness to at least Pay Evil unto Evil.
  • Shout-Out: The "Villains Anonymous" scene setup is identical to the one in Wreck-It Ralph, and Eggman was one of the circle members in the original film.
  • Swapped Roles: "The Evilness of Eggman (?)" dealt with Eggman, an Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain at the time, trying to prove his worth to SMG3 who, then at the pinnacle of his evilness, was the one who ridiculed him and called out his villainy. This episode has SMG3, now the Anti-Hero and Token Evil Teammate of his friends, going so soft that the now-more ruthless Dr. Eggman reacts with the same disdain from nine years back, though with the added bonus of trying to restore SMG3 to his villain days.
