Mario and Meggy are training hard for the new splatfest when a particular Octoling crashes their party... will the two become friends with the newcomer? Or will she end up breaking their friendship?
Mario and Meggy are at it again, training for the upcoming Splatfest to make up for their loss from last year. This time, a new rival stands in their way: Desti the Octoling, whose taunting of Meggy and interest in Mario puts their friendship to the test.
- The Cameo: Pearl and Marina show up briefly in a scene where Mario kicks Pearl into a Salmonid-infested pipe.
- Detrimental Determination: Meggy winds up pushing Mario much harder than normal in training when she feels threatened by Desti, and eventually pushes him away when she thinks his pleas for a break mean he isn't taking his training seriously.
- Feud Episode: A mild example where Mario and Meggy split up after Mario fails to keep up with Meggy's determination to beat Desti. They later make up when Meggy comes back to save him from Desti.
- Naked People Are Funny: When Mario runs into an Octoposse member with a Sloshing Machine, he mistakes her weapon for a regular washer and stuffs all his clothes in there, waiting patiently in the nude for his clothes to clean while the Octoling stands in Stunned Silence.
- No-Sell: An enemy Splash Wall is harmful to Inklings with an opposing color, but since Mario isn't an Inkling, he walks through one and just gets his clothes messy.
- Sequel Episode: This episode is a direct follow-up to the original "If Mario Was In... Splatoon", bringing up several references to how they lost and how it still affects Meggy.
- We Can Rule Together: Desti tries getting Mario to join her team, ironically respecting him more for his Achievements in Ignorance than Meggy's (supposedly) insufficient training. When Mario flatly refuses, Desti calls up her posse to take him by force.
