Recap / Rugrats S 6 E 2 Chuckerfly Angelicas Twin

Go To

The second episode of the sixth season of Rugrats (1991).

Chuckerfly

Chuckie wants to be cute, so he tries to go through metamorphosis like a butterfly.

Angelica's Twin

Angelica makes up a twin sister to get twice as many toys, but the babies like the imaginary sister more than Angelica.

"Chuckerfly" provides examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Angelica manages to convince Chuckie that he's not cute anymore, Chuckie tells his friends that he grew out of being cute, just like he grew out of his favorite Reptar pajamas. Upon hearing this, Lil says "Poor Chuckie. He's not cute and he gots no jammies!"
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Angelica tells him he isn't cute anymore, Chuckie wonders what he's going to do to make himself cute again. He then sees the cocoon that the caterpillar made earlier, which gives him the idea to make his own cocoon out of blankets.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, when the adults decide to give Chuckie attention, Angelica wraps herself in the blanket cocoon that Chuckie made earlier, since this plan worked for him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Early in this episode, Angelica tells Chuckie that he isn't cute anymore (and in her opinion, he wasn't all that cute to begin with), while people like her get cuter as they grow. Near the end of the episode, the adults start paying attention to Chuckie, and Angelica tries to get their attention, but to no avail.
  • Malaproper:
    • The babies mispronounce "Caterpillar" as "Kittypillar" and "cocoon" as "cancun".
    • Angelica mispronounces "Pirouette" as "Spirouette", and "Plastic surgery" as "Elastic purgery".

"Angelica's Twin" provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: While under her "Ballina" guise, Angelica calls Chuckie "Chunky", upon which Chuckie corrects her.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comparison: This exchange when Angelica returns to the babies as her normal self:
Angelica: So, do you babies want to play with your favoritest person?
Tommy: Sure we do, but we can wait till' she comes back.
  • Bland-Name Product: When Betty talks to Didi about having two children in Toy Palace, she mentions that among the things she'll have to buy are two Snappy Meals.
  • Continuity Nod: The babies return to Toy Palace at the beginning of this episode.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Angelica overhears Betty talking to Didi about having to buy two of everything due to having two children, this gives her the idea to make up her own twin sister so she can get a second toy.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: This exchange occurs after Angelica tricks the babies into thinking that Ballina went back home:
Angelica: Yeah, we'll see. I would at least said good-bye to you dumb babies. That's the problem with those nice ones; you never know what they really think of you. Not like me. That's why you babies are so lucky to have me, Angelica.
Tommy: But... you're not Angelica. You're Ballina!
Angelica: Wha... what are you talking about, shrimp-face? I'm not that dumb Ballina! She's got her hair up in a...
(Angelica suddenly realizes that she still has her hair tied up.)
    Angelica: Oops.
  • Fake Twin Gambit: Angelica puts her hair in a bun and rolls her sleeves up, pretending to be her nicer twin sister Ballina. Didi of course isn't fooled but plays along anyway. The babies believe it and prefer Ballina, which greatly annoys Angelica.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Angelica's plan to trick the babies into thinking she has a twin sister named Ballina works too well, as the babies begin to like Ballina more than her.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Angelica invokes this trope when she pretends to have a twin sister named Ballina. To portray her, she ties up her Girlish Pigtails, rolls up the sleeves of her shirt, and speaks in a higher-pitched voice.
  • Line-of-Sight Alias: In order to con Didi into buying her two toys, rather than just one, Angelica tells Didi that she has a twin sister. She sees a boy play with a ball across the store, which gives her the idea to name her imaginary sister "Ballina". Even though Didi sees right through it, she buys the toy anyway, not wanting to stunt Angelica's imagination.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: "The Nutcracker Suite" plays when Didi pays for the toys at the cash register.
  • Tied-Together-Shoelace Trip: Discussed; When the babies tell Angelica under her "Ballina" guise that there isn't anything in particular that they like about Angelica, Angelica asks them if they remember when she helped them tie their shoes. Phil retaliates by telling her she tied them together so they couldn't walk without falling over.
