Miyafuji attends the University of Lausanne's Medical College in Helvetia while awaiting being summoned back to rejoin the reformed Strike Witches when a retiring Sakamoto comes to visit. At a travelling circus, a polar bear breaks loose and Miyafuji soothes it, discovering that it had a cavity causing it pain outing herself as a witch to her friend and fellow student Althea. Althea confesses that she hasn't hear from her father in some time, commander of the Littorio class Venezian battleship Doge. Sakamoto gets her into contact with her father via radio, but the conversation is broken up by mysterious interference as the Doge comes into contact with a mysterious iceberg in the North Sea that appears to be moving on its own towards Antwerp. Miyafuji is forced to borrow an old run down Messerscharf Bf 109 Striker Unit and flies to the North Sea in defense of the Doge. Upon arrival the iceberg reveals itself as a Neuroi (unusual since the Neuroi previously had shown that they dislike water) by attacking Miyafuji.
Tropes in this episode:
- Bears Are Bad News: A polar bear goes berzerk at a circus. Subverted in that the bear was only dealing with a toothache and is quite friendly normally and after Miyafuji heals it.
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Miyafuji still using her shield to protect the Doge from the iceberg Neuroi firing its beams.
- Determinator: Even if it's a barely-maintained Striker Unit, Miyafuji will help. And it's to make sure the father of her new friend is safe. Earlier, she calmed a polar bear who performs at a circus by curing its cavity while protecting herself with her shield.
- Muggle Best Friend: Althea, like Michiko Yamagawa, is this to Miyafuji. The second half of the episode starts because she tells Miyafuji, Sakamoto, and Hijikata she hadn't able to talk to her father, a captain in the Venezian Navy.
- Opening Narration: Once again, the season opens with a brief monologue recapping the Neuroi's invasion of Europe and the history that followed:"It was the year 1939. A mysterious enemy appeared before humanity without warning. These beings came to be called the Neuroi. It wasn't long before these fearsome creatures occupied most of Europe, driving countless people from their nations. Their homes. But mankind would not give up so easily. They developed a new weapon to face their foe. With the power of this new device, brave young girls with magic powers were able to take to the sky. It was known as a Striker Unit. Modern witches from all over the world donned these armaments and came together to fight the Neuroi. The greatest of these high-flying heroes belonged to an elite squad known as the 501st Joint Fighter Wing. But the world knew them by another name: the Strike Witches."
