Recap / Road To Berlin Ep 2 The Strike Witches Come Together

Go To

Miyafuji continues to fight the Neuroi hidden in the iceberg, but her Striker Unit fails and she crashes onto the deck of the Doge. The Neuroi destroys Fort Scheldt and makes its way towards the port of Antwerp. The crew of Doge attacks in attempt to keep the Neuroi away from the vital port city, even if it means sacrificing themselves. The maintenance crew manages to get Miyafuji's Striker Unit working well enough to at least be airborne, and she takes to the air again, managed to make her way inside the iceberg to the Core when the Unit fails again. At the last second, Wilcke, Barkhorn, and Hartmann arrive from St. Trond and attack the Neuroi. The other Strike Witches stagger in based on how far away they were stationed. Eventually after everyone has arrived, Hartmann manages to destroy the Neuroi. However, despite the Neuroi no longer controlling it the momentum of the iceberg continues it on its path to Antwerp. The Strike Witches try to weaken it with their weapons, but fail and it collides with the port destroying it. Afterwards, the Strike Witches are formally re-established as the Allied operation to invade Karlsland will finally be going forward. Hattori officially joins the squadron, replacing Sakamoto.

Tropes in this episode:

  • The Cavalry: The rest of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing arrive to assist Miyafuji and the Doge.
  • Hope Spot: Three actually. One had the Belgican forces in Fort Scheldt assist Miyafuji and the Doge only for them to get bombarded by Bomb-Type Neuroi. Next is Miyafuji managing to penetrating the ice of the Neuroi with the Doge's help only to be forced out. Lastly, while the Neuroi was shown to be separate from the iceberg and is promptly killed by the 501st, the iceberg continues toward Antwerp...
  • Wham Episode: The iceberg? Not really the Neuroi as it escapes from the former only for the 501st to intercept it. Then the iceberg presses toward Antwerp and the 501st is unable to stop it.
