Go To

Lucy, feeling ignored and guilty about the vampire incident, goes with Rick and Lincoln on an adventure that leads them to a planet where an annual Purge occurs.

Rick and Morty episode: Look Who's Purging Now

Loud House episode: Spell It Out

  • Adaptational Context Change: Rick stops Lucy from cursing her siblings through an ineffective spellbook by Great Grandma Harriet by taking her and Lincoln on an adventure. Unfortunately the Purge planet happens to be the one stop gas station when the cruiser runs out of fuel, and things get much more grimmer for her to stomach. Lincoln also has a bigger role than in the original episode.
    • As a result, most of the siblings' role from this adaptation are reduced.
  • Adapted Out: The entirety of "Spell It Out" apart from the beginning gets shuffled off in favor of "Look Who's Purging Now". For starters, Rick prevents Lucy from casting curses on her sisters and Lincoln, by taking her to another adventure that ends in typical traumatic fashion for her and Lincoln, playing out almost like the Rick and Morty episode.
    • As a result, Lincoln's friends don't appear in an online game because he instead adventured with Rick.
  • Break the Cutie: the dark and gloomy Lucy becomes extremely traumatized after witnessing the carnage at the night purge, then gets insulted by the writer for griping about his writing. Lucy then becomes too shaken to fight back when the purge aliens attack, forcing Lincoln to step in.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Lincoln showcases this attitude towards Lucy throughout the chapter, showing concern for her new attitude, standing up to the Jerkass Cat Writer when he badmouths her, and taking down a Purging alien to save her life.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Like in canon, the Old Writer wants to take Rick's beacon down because Lucy gave him honest criticisms for his style of writing.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Lincoln kills the purging cat aliens to protect Lucy.
  • Continuity Nod: The narration tells us that Lucy hasn't been on great terms with the Morticians' Club, especially Haiku, after Lucy's "Vampire" episode.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Rick and Lucy can’t stomach the annual purges, despite initially looking forward to seeing it.
  • Irony: Lucy gets spooked by none other than grandpa Rick while checking out Grandma Harriet's spellbook, very similar to "Fandom Pains" ("Fandom Assimilation" in the crossover).
  • Rage Breaking Point: Lincoln, already stressed from dealing with the Purge, growls at the Old Writer for constantly deriding Lucy for giving him criticism. If it weren't Lucy wanting to leave right then and there, Lincoln probably would have killed him.
  • Related in the Adaptation / Crossover Relatives: Rick reveals that Great Grandma Harriet is his mother. There's even a brief flashback of the two, where Rick wants a car from a toy store.
  • Take That!: Lucy claims to have seen The Purge, and that it "kinda sucked".
