Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 11 The Citadel Of Ricks

Go To

Rick, Lincoln, and Lisa get arrested for the murder of Ricks throughout the Multiverse.

Rick & Morty episode: "Close Rick-Counters Of The Rick Kind"

Loud House episode: N/A

  • Adaptational Expansion:
    • Lisa speculates that their Citadel of Ricks isn't the only one in the Multiverse. Rick confirms that indeed, there are other Citadels based around Rick and whatever family he belongs to.
      • It is much later implied by Evil Lincoln in "The Man with the Plan" that Morty and his family exist in a separate Central Finite Curve with its own Citadel somewhere in the infinite expanse. This meant that Rick C-137 and his adventures are canon in this fic as well. Then again, we are reminded that this is the infinite multiverse in question, where literally anything can be possible.
    • Doofus Rick is given his own family in the form of Doofus Lisa (which is really a version of Lisa who's more shy than a typical Lisa).
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In Rick and Morty, when Morty asks Evil Morty to help free the other Mortys, Evil Morty just gives a fatalistic response of how Mortys can't defeat Ricks. Here, Evil Lincoln just snidely refuses Lincoln's plea to help free the other Lincolns as he says they're "bad luck".
  • Bittersweet Ending: Rick, Lincoln, and Lisa manage to clear Rick of the Citadel's charges and reassure Leni that they don't think she's dumb. However, Evil Lincoln manages to escape justice, blending in with the freed Lincolns so that he can continue his plans another day.
  • Call-Forward:
    • The version of the Loud Family we see in the beginning owns a restaurant like their canon counterparts by Season 3's "Cooked".
    • Evil Lincoln's snide remark on how Lincolns aren't "good luck" foreshadows the events of "No Such Luck".
  • Continuity Nod: As the family gets ready for breakfast, it's noted that Lola is still depressed from losing her pageant career in the previous chapter.
  • Decoy Protagonist: We begin the chapter with the Loud family celebrating opening of Lynn, Sr.'s restaurant, only for Evil Rick and Evil Lincoln to show up, killing Rick and kidnapping Lincoln while they're too horrified to do anything. It turns out this was a version of the family from another dimension and we rejoin the L-137 family shortly after.
  • Following in Relative's Footsteps: Lisa wishes to be taken on one of Rick's adventures in hopes of attaining enough scientific knowledge to be at least on par with him. She learns later that her becoming "another Rick" is the last thing Rick wants for her.
  • Karma Houdini: Evil Lincoln gets away with all the murder and torture he caused through his controlled Rick.
  • Kick the Dog: When the Guard Ricks prank Leni into thinking her Rick, Lincoln, and Lisa were going to die and then tease her for being gullible, she is so mortified that she runs up to her room in tears.
  • Mythology Gag: This chapter gives us many references to other Loud House episodes;
    • There's a classy, well-dressed version Luna playing the violin. She's a reference to her past self as seen in "For Bros About to Rock" and it's often speculated among the fandom that Luna would get into classical music if she hadn't met Mick Swagger.
    • There's a version of the Loud family who are all rabbits. This was Chris Savino's original plan for the show and was the idea was revisted in Season 3's "White Hare".
    • When Rick and the kids flee the Guard Ricks, one of the universes they go through is a gender-flipped version of the story's first chapter where there's a Linka (Lincoln), a Lars (Lucy), and a Grandma Rita rather than a Grandpa Rick. This is based on the episode "One of the Boys" in which Lincoln wonders what it's like to have 10 brothers instead of sisters.
