Exhausted from staying up late and playing football, Mordecai and Rigby decide to catch a cat nap inside a crate they're supposed to pack — and end up in Australia, where they must traverse the Outback to the airport before Monday or Benson will fire them.
The episode has the following tropes:
- All Just a Dream: At the end the duo seem to succeed in heading home and fall asleep on the plane. Only to awaken back in the crate and figure the whole episode was just a dream until they open the crate and find they really are in Australia.
- Ambiguous Ending: It just ends with Mordecai and Rigby being seemingly stuck in Australia for real this time, but in the next episode they returned to the United States.
- Artistic License – Geography: Seen from space no less, Mordecai and Rigby seem to be stuck at either the far southern part of the Northern Territory or far northern part of South Australia. The final part of the episode takes place at an airport that seems to be modelled after the Canberra International Airport.
- Boxing Kangaroo: Mordecai and Rigby wind up having to hitch a ride in a truck full of these. Later they come back and knock out the Prime Minister's security.
- Brick Joke:
- After missing the bus, Rigby convinces Mordecai to walk all over the airport (300 kilometers away) but with the condition of him not giving him a piggyback ride. After walking all day trying to get to the airport, Mordecai does end up giving him a piggyback ride.
- Back in "Real Date", Rigby bought a rugby trophy that was edited to say "Rigby". Here, the sport of rugby is renamed to Rigby after he helped save the Prime Minister.
- Chekhov's Gun: The football playing comes in handy in saving the Prime Minister.
- Continuity Nod: Hamboning makes a subtle comeback.
- Cruel Twist Ending: The whole episode was revealed to be All Just a Dream, but Mordecai and Rigby still end up in Australia.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: The duo pass out in the desert while trying to get to the airport and have a vision of later events in the episode.
- Heavy Sleeper: How they both ended up in Australia without noticing.
- Kangaroos Represent Australia: A pack of kangaroos passing by are what make the duo realize they're in Australia.
- Land Down Under: If the title wasn't clear enough...
- Missed the Bus: Rigby is in the bathroom when the bus comes. They manage to catch up to it, but they're running by the right side of the bus, and Australian buses board on the left.
- Shared Dream: The episode is revealed to be All Just a Dream shared by Mordecai and Rigby.

- The episode title is one to The Rescuers Down Under.
- Angus dresses like an extra from Mad Max.
- Sore Loser: Angus, the bar patron Mordecai and Rigby meet at the start, is revealed to be a politician who lost the election to the current Prime Minister and wishes to punch him in the stomach where he recently had surgery which will prove fatal if it hits.
- Too Dumb to Live: The Prime Minister leaving his stomach as well as his surgery wound exposed as Angus tries to punch him.
