Recap / Re Boot S 2 E 8 Gigabyte

Go To

Continuing on from "Nullzilla", the possessed Megabyte attacks Hexadecimal and merges with her, becoming a super virus named Gigabyte. Now the Mainframers need to figure out how stop Gigabyte before he gain enough power to create a portal into the net!

This episode has examples of

  • An Arm and a Leg: Mouse lops off Gigabyte's claw arm so Bob and Dot can escape from him.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Gigabyte's claws tear clean through Bob's armour, forcing him to put on bulkier gear when he starts his plan. It doesn't do much better.
  • Badass Boast: "I am become Gigabyte, destroyer of systems!"
  • Big "NO!": Gigabyte, just before Bob performs the split.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Enzo, when Bob suggested giving Gigabyte more energy because he has an idea.
  • The Bus Came Back: Mouse, from "The Great Brain Robbery", reappears in this episode.
  • Call-Back: Dot tries to attack Megabyte with a claw like she did in "Infected". When he tries to infect and control it, she releases the apparatus to prevent that.
  • Enemy Mine: Hack and Slash help Bob fight Gigabyte, hoping to wear him down through attrition. The Good news is, they do a pretty good job stalling for time as the sector detaches from Mainframe. The bad news is, Hack gets stabbed anyways and drained of his energy. But the good news is, they're far enough away from the city now that Gigabyte would drain himself before he could fly there...until Slash punches him back in to the city in a fit of rage.
  • Energy Absorption: Gigabyte's main form of attack and defence, but he can only drain energy with his claws.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Dot is initially displeased to see Mouse again, both for what happened to Enzo last season and how close she is with Bob. For her part, Mouse delights in tweaking her. While getting the tear, though, they reach an understanding after Dot saves Mouse's life.
  • Foreshadowing: When Bob splits Gigabyte apart, he is confused to see he splits into three entities instead of just two, and Mouse is seen activating a device.
  • Fusion Dance: Megabyte and Hexadecimal merge to become Gigabyte. They are separated at the end of the episode.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Gigabyte presents such a threat that Bob issues a Net wide alert calling all Guardians for assistance, something he's never done before now.
  • Going to Give It More Energy: Bob's plan to defeat Gigabyte is to give him a tear. While this does give him access to a huge amount of energy, while he's occupied trying to absorb it, Bob is able to turn the tear into a portal with which he can use to split Gigabyte back into his component parts.
  • Hope Spot: Even after draining Hack, Gigabyte was too far away from Mainframe to fly back. Until Slash punched him back into town.
  • Immediate Sequel: Directly from "Nullzilla".
  • Logical Weakness: It's subtle, but Gigabyte's energy draining only works with his claws. So Mouse cuts it off to buy her, Bob and Dot time to flee and plan.
  • No-Sell: Bob learns the hard way that Gigabyte can absorb Glitch's energy blasts.
    • Cutting off his arm just makes him grab it and stick it back on the stump.
  • Red Right Hand: Gigabyte's claws reach almost to his ankle.
  • The Reveal: Hexadecimal reveals that she and Megabyte are siblings. Their attempts to destroy each other were just "Sibling rivalry".
  • Underestimating Badassery: Slightly. Once Gigabyte returns from the detached sector and penetrates the Principal Office, he balks at the sight of Enzo and AndrAIa confronting him. Then they sic Frisket on him. Bob takes a while catching up, arriving just as Gigabyte tosses a drained Frisket aside. Frisket managed to stop the Supervirus dead in his tracks, even if for a few nanos.
  • Villainous Rescue: Hack and Slash, of all people, save Bob from Gigabyte.
  • Wham Line: "He is my brother!"
  • Wham Shot: Bob and Dot are saved by Mouse.
  • Worf Had the Flu: As Nullzilla existed to drain Hexdadecimal's power, she is too weak to defend herself from Megabyte. Conversely, this means Gigabyte doesn't have the energy to use any of Hexadecimal's powers.
