Go To

In the days that follow the mission to rescue Tyrannosaurus rex, Jack undergoes his rounds at the park before eventually chilling out with his reptile collection.

  • A Day in the Limelight: The entire chapter serves as this for Jack, where we see him begin to bond with Duke and Kaa and get some Ship Tease with Collete.
  • Elemental Motifs: Jack is associated with the element of water. His apartment is rather dimly-lit and has mostly blue, silver and teal colours. And, in personality, he has the fluidity and resourcefulness to match.
  • Fantastic Fauna Counterpart: As Jack muses, there are a lot of reptiles that serve ecological roles similar to various different other non-reptilian animals.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The beginnings of this between Jack, Duke, and Kaa are properly shown in this chapter, and there are also hints of him developing a bond in the future with some of the small terrestrial Triassic crocodilians from New Blood.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: In his past as a Novum worker from before he started working at the park, he did not at all hesitate to snatch away a rare species of turtle from the wares of a Chinese soup salesman. And he successfully gets away with it to!
  • Malicious Monitor Lizard: Jack has two ridge-tailed monitors in his collection, who absolutely avert this.
  • Moment Killer: Duke squawks with quiet amusement at a Ship Tease moment between Jack and Collete.
  • Raptor Attack: Averted as usual. The dromaeosaurus are properly feathered, of appropriate intelligence level, and are not mindlessly violent and bloodthirsty.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Averted. Aside from Kaa the dinilysia, Jack has two large snakes in his collection - a boa constrictor and a ball python that are totally harmless.
  • Ship Tease: Jack and Collete get a brief romantic moment at the droma paddock. This does not go unnoticed by Duke.
