Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 2 The Importance Of Being Leon

Go To

On the night of the day in which the compsognathus mission occurred, Leon Gilbertson finds himself ruefully reminiscing over both his unpleasant past before Prehistoric Park and his less than ideal early days of work at the park...but not without coming up with what could very well be an idea that could get him on the right direction to turning things around for himself.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Inverted. In Prehistoric Earth, Leon was heavily implied to have been outright bullied in school. Here, the torment he underwent at school never went further than nonetheless meanspirited teasing.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter serves as one for Leon.
  • Alpha Bitch: One of Leon's two worst tormentors in middle school, a cheerleader named Fiona Winters, was naturally one of these.
  • Appropriated Appelation: This is the chapter where Leon first gets the idea to, in a roundabout way, turn Jack's malicious nickname for him into one of these for the sake of improving himself and his skills.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: This chapter goes into extra detail on the torment and other unpleasant events that befell Leon in the days before he befriended Drew and Adrian as well as in between his befriending them and the day he got hired to work at the park.
  • Delayed Diagnosis: Leon's being tormented by Billy, Fiona, and various other students in middle school over his 'being different' was only made worse by the fact that he still hadn't yet been properly diagnosed with his autism at the time, which meant he didn't even understand why he was acting so 'different'.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Leon comes up with an idea to potentially start off in the right direction for improving himself and his skills after careful consideration of both an old talent for impersonating animal vocalizations he had back in middle school (and in fact still has even now) and an especially crucial detail of the literary character who serves as the namesake for Jack's malicious nickname for him.
  • Friendless Background: As per his Dark and Troubled Past, Leon had a very saddening one of these before he met and befriended Drew and Adrian.
  • Foreshadowing: Retroactively (as this chapter was first posted after Oozing From the Pit, the chapter in which said device is first properly introduced in the main PPR story, had already been posted) provides this for Leon's noise broadcasting device.
  • Jerk Jock: One of Leon's two worst tormentors, a member of the school basketball team and Fiona's boyfriend Billy Summers, was one of these. Unlike most cases, he was evidently far from dumb, given how he became a lawyer.
  • Karma Houdini: Much to Leon's rueful disappointment, Fiona and Billy are living quite well in the days since middle school, with the former being an immensely successful businesswoman and the latter being a lawyer.
  • The Load: Leon proves all too well aware of how a large number of the staff at the park (especially Jack, and now potentially even Drew) view him as this. And he is not remotely happy about this fact.
