Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 1 Brave New World

Go To

In the days immediately following the events of the park's very first rescue mission, the four chiefs of staff are hard at work in their respective fields, but not without getting the chance to reflect on the sheer enormity of what they're doing and eagerly looking forward to the future.

  • Adaptation Expansion: This chapter allows for a fairly in-depth look at the backstories of Kyle, Linda, Nikolai, and Khatin; information that they all sorely lacked in Prehistoric Earth.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Serves as this for all four of the park's chiefs of staff.
  • The Atoner: Nikolai's desire to be this in regards to the great wrongs he considers himself to have committed during his time in the Spetsnaz proves his primary motivation behind accepting Theodore's offer to work for him.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: All but stated word for word to be a primary reason behind Linda, Kyle, and Khatin accepting Theodore's offer for them to work at the park. After all, it's not every day that they get to work with animals that had initially spent countless years extinct.
  • Big Good: Theodore shows his chops as this in full force over the course of his approaching Linda, Kyle, Khatin, and Nikolai and giving them the fateful offer to work for him at first Novum, and then later Prehistoric Park.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Apparently, a Mexican bartender and his two cronies attempted to threaten Nikolai (an ex-Spetsnaz sniper) about his unpaid tab. It culminated in the scrawny crony missing three teeth, the fat crony with a broken nose and the barman cowering underneath the table.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: What Nikolai was reduced to doing in between the day he quit the Spetsnaz and the day he met Theodore.
  • Gentle Giant Sauropod: Arlo the apatosaurus is featured leisurely walking around his recovery pen while Linda keeps a watchful eye on him.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: Theodore is this in full force. Not only does he give Nikolai a job, helping him get out of his lowest point, but pays off his entire bar tab with his own money and even uses funds from his own pockets to help a harassed waitress whose honour Nikolai had gotten into a barfight over (as well as his unpaid tab) get her own life turned around as well.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Linda clearly has Arlo's best interests at heart as she keeps a close eye on him during his time in his recovery pen.
  • Kindly Vet: Linda is her usually kindly self in her scenes in this chapter.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Nikolai suffered from heavy PTSD thanks to the horrors he underwent in his time in the Spetsnaz.
  • Survivor's Guilt: One of the things that weighed very heavily on Nikolai's mind both before and after his departure from the Spetsnaz (and somewhat still weighs heavily on his mind even in his new life at Novum and Prehistoric Park) is his inability to save several good friends he'd had in the Spetsnaz who ended up dying while we himself was helpless to do anything to save them.
  • These Hands Have Killed: The other thing that weighs heavily on Nikolai's mind alongside his Survivor's Guilt is just how many people whose lives he himself personally ended over the course of his service to the Spetsnaz.
