Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: Evil Cam and Mayor Lothor's fight is built up as a serious throwdown. After the slow walk-up and angry glares, they proceed to fight like a Three Stooges routine.
  • Big Damn Heroes: "Pardon me, gentlemen, but I have been elected to defend the city, and I intend to do it."
  • The Cameo: Various monsters from throughout the season appear at the beach, Storm Chargers, and the commune.
  • Evil Doppelgänger:
    • The Power Rangers of the Mirror Universe are, unsurprisingly, evil villains who cause trouble for kicks. On top of that, they're massive Jerkasses.
    • By contrast, Lothor, his nieces and the various aliens and monsters from that world are all good people with ordinary jobs, though they may not be very good at some of them. Lothor is even the mayor.
  • Evil Laugh: The evil Rangers do this, though instead of a dramatic cackle it's more like really mean chuckles.
  • Faint in Shock: Tori faints when she sees that the mayor is Lothor in the parallel world.
  • Honor Before Reason: With Mayor Lothor too scared to get involved, Tori goes to fight the evil Rangers alone and without her powers. It inspires Mayor Lothor and the alien monsters to help out.
  • Mayor Pain: Subverted and inverted. Mayor Lothor is actually a good person, if a bit of a coward.
  • Mythology Gag: The Space Ninja Striker the good villains form did appear in Hurricaneger, as the Ankoku Bomber.
  • Mirror Universe: With the predictable swap in personalities and alignments. That aside, Zurgane is a hopeless bumbler, Choobo is his competent manager, Motodrone is the Mayor's soft-spoken assistant, Dustin is the smart Ranger, and Shane and Hunter are interested in the other's usual sport.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Mayor Lothor insists he's going to stand up to the evil Rangers.
Evil Dustin: Don't make me laugh. Everybody knows you're scared of us.
Mayor Lothor: That may be true, but they're not. [the various aliens teleport in]
