Go To

An old ally of Udonna's from the Great Battle, Calindor, returns to Rootcore; Phineas, Clare and Jenji don't trust him, but everyone else does. Also, the frog from the last episode follows the Rangers around and turns out to be pretty important.

Tropes

  • Bewitched Amphibians: The episode reveals the frog from last time is Daggeron, cursed following his battle with Calindor. Madison kissing him returns him to normal.
  • Cassandra Truth: Udonna doesn't believe Clare when she sees that the crystal ball senses dark magic in Rootcore.
  • Cuteness Proximity: While practicing some blind trust falls, the whole team abandons Madison to coo over the baby dragon.
Madison: (dejected) Oh. That's trust for ya.
  • Demonization: Part of Calindor's cover story is telling Udonna that it was Daggeron that betrayed them.
  • Face–Heel Turn: The episode explains that Imperious was once Calindor, an ally of Udonna and Daggeron before being tempted by dark magic.
  • Flashback: The fight between Daggeron and Calindor.
  • Foreshadowing: After Udonna and Daggeron discuss what became of Bowen, we see Phineas hiding nearby and dreading the group finding out what he did.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Jenji when he can sense Daggeron is back.
  • He's Back!: After returning to his real form and morphing, Daggeron boasts he's back in action.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet... I Always Wanted to Say That: Said back-to-back by Chip.
  • It's All My Fault: Daggeron had been tasked with protecting Bowen. He had assumed Leanbow eventually found the baby, but when told that didn't happen, he blames himself.
  • Near-Villain Victory: The Rangers get back to Rootcore the very moment that Imperious is poised to claim the Xenotome.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Even before the reveal, Claire can't stand Calindor.
  • Oh, Crap!: Both Phineas and Jenji when they see Calindor.
  • Pet the Dog: Madison kisses the frog for helping her during the fight.
  • Spanner in the Works:
    • Defied. After getting to Rootcore, Calindor sees Jenji in his lamp and knows he can spoil his cover story, so he keeps him bottled up.
    • Played straight with Phineas. Unbeknownst to Calindor, Phineas knows the truth because he secretly witnessed the fight with Daggeron. He later tells Claire about it, so she rushes back to Rootcore and foils Calindor's attempt to poison Udonna.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: How Udonna learns the truth about her old friend. The tea that Calindor had prepared for her gets spilled onto a nearby book, immediately causing an adverse reaction.
  • That Man Is Dead: Imperious balks at Daggeron using his old name and immediately sets him straight.
  • We Meet Again: How Daggeron greets his Evil Former Friend upon entering Root Core.
  • We Will Meet Again: Forced to flee, Imperious promises he will finish Daggeron the next time they meet.
  • Wham Shot: Calindor revealing that he is Imperious.
