Recap / Pokemon EA 47 A Pokemons True Strength

Go To

Midway into the final match, Flash and Lightning have five and four Pokémon left, respectively, leaving only one question: who will win the Hoofington Battle Tournament?

  • Armor-Piercing Question: As Lightning gloats about his victory, he tells Flash that he should be a more ruthless trainer who only focuses on capturing strong Pokémon above all else. Flash protests that such a strategy is wrong, but Lightning retorts by asking if it's wrong then why did it allow him to win the tournament. Flash is left at a loss of words.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Surprisingly, Lightning ends up winning the tournament, living up to his earlier promise from the Hoof Cup that he would win the next tournament.
  • Downer Ending: Lightning beats Flash and wins the tournament, with his newly evolved Gorillamp beating Riptide to within an inch of his life in the final battle. Flash is absolutely crushed by this, not just because he lost, but how badly he did, only being able to beat half of Lightning's team, and Lightning's ego is bigger than ever, believing this victory proves his methods of training are correct. Flash's friends attempt to comfort Flash over his loss, but he clearly shows signs of beginning a Heroic BSoD.
  • Killer Gorilla: As the name implies, Lightning's Gorillamp is a gorilla Pokémon.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Lightning's Chimplug evolves into Gorillamp, which unfortunately allows him to beat Flash's Spranitor and win the tournament as a whole.
