Recap / Plastic Addict S 1 E 28 Energon Hot Shot

Go To

"Happy Halloween everyone! Technically this isn't a Halloween special as I'm not a fan of the hokey "it's a holiday, a reviewer must make something special for the day." But when you're diving into the toybox of Addict victims, it's always a scary thing. Today we have our first returning victim of Plastic Addict, back in a new body. How much better does he fare? ...does he fare better at all? He's on THIS show, what do you think?"

Release: October 31, 2011

  • The Bore: Generally considers Hotshot this from an aesthetics standpoint in every mode except in his shirt mode, since his pants mode is literally just him with his arms and head folded away. His articulation isn't much better, as his legs are borderline useless, his arms can only move forwards, and he has no neck joint.
  • Boring, but Practical: While Hotshot's vehicle mode is boring to look at, TJ does note it's one of the few redeeming qualities of the toy as it functions well and has some unique features only found on collector grade figures at the time. The robot mode, however...
  • Breather Episode: TJ previously stated there would be regular Plastic Addict videos amongst the "Worst 5" episodes. This is the only time that happens, given how fast he gained subscribers.
  • Dreadful Musician: Since episode sixteen, we find out that Robots In Disguise Bruticus went onto become a "highly successful" rapper.
  • Halloween Episode: As the video description flat-out states, averted. That is, unless you take some of his commentary way too seriously. When discussing Powerlinx Hot Shot's lack of articulation:
TJ: "...you're looking at a plastic statue doing a Frankenstein impression — and with that reference, I count this as a Halloween episode. It's not like I could review anything scarier."
  • Oh, Crap!: After his first glimpse of the robot mode:
    TJ: (Softly) "Help!"
  • Sequelitis: In-Universe. TJ treats Energon Hot Shot this way, to the point where he actually compliments the toy's predecessor, Armada Hot Shot, for at least having a much sleeker car mode and decent leg articulation in robot mode. He's still undecided if Energon Hot Shot, as a whole, is worse though.
TJ: "Armada Hot Shot's saving grace was his vehicle mode too; we only got to the bad stuff when we hit robot mode. Let's see if the sequel follows suit..."
