Recap / Phineas And Ferb Sleepwalk Surprise

Go To

When Doofenshmirtz finds out he makes inators in his sleep, he decides to go back into his dreams to find out why. Meanwhile, Phineas and Ferb stage a game of Jetpack Volleyball and Candace has to prevent Mom from seeing it when Jeremy joins in the fun.

Tropes:

  • Behavioral Conditioning: Even though Candace is trying to keep Linda away from the backyard, Linda still has an urge to go outside, describing it as a "Pavlovian go outside response".
  • Blatant Lies: Candace ends up pulling these on Mom to stop her from seeing the Big Idea, since she doesn't want to bust Jeremy.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: As soon as Doof falls asleep, he says, "Ripple dissolve imminent."
  • Call-Back: Doof is on the phone with someone attempting to sell him aluminum siding.
  • Continuity Nod: Doof's dream is filled with lawn gnomes, goozims, Balloonys and Giant Floating Baby Heads.
  • Dream Within a Dream: Doof ends up having a daydream within a flashback within a dream sequence, which he lampshades.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: The three inators (the Confetti-inator, the Cupcake-inator, Hug-inator) Doof made in his sleep aren't impressive or even evil on their own. But when combined as shown in his dream, they can turn the city into a massive cupcake that traps civilians, and it becomes inedible when covered with confetti.
  • Hell Is That Noise: Linda notices the racket going on in the backyard, but Candace, not wanting to bust them since Jeremy is involved, does all she can to avoid it.
  • Inner Monologue: Candace's subconscious is telling her what to do, and her normal self tries to get her subconscious to stop talking to her.
    Candace: Quiet, you!
  • Or Was It a Dream?: The Inner Doof appears outside of Doof's dream, but Doof points out he's not dreaming. The Inner Doof attempts to invoke this, but Doof just says, "No. No it isn't.", after which, the Inner Doof simply disappears as Doof gives the camera a dirty look.
  • Pet the Dog: Candace realizes she cannot bust her brothers when she sees Jeremy participating in their project, thus she does whatever she can to stop Linda from seeing it.
  • Real Dreams are Weirder: When Doof wakes up from his dream, he describes it as one of "those dreams that seem logical when you're having them, but are total nonsense when you wake up".
  • Ridiculously Long Phone Hold: Candace calls her mom's cell phone pretending to be a telemarketer and puts her on hold, while the Muzak version of "Lindana" plays.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When two of the inators fall over, Doof sarcastically suggests that Norm throw the third over as well. Norm, having no concept of sarcasm since he is a robot, takes him for his word and does so.
  • The Silent Bob: When pretending to talk to her brothers in the backyard, Candace says, "What's that, Ferb? Oh, right, you don't talk."
  • Sleep Deprivation: Major Monogram spent the night before the episode monitoring Doofenshmirtz's inator-building activities. The next morning, he's disheveled and is unable to finish giving Agent P his mission before falling asleep.
  • Sleepwalking: Doof has the capability of building inators in his sleep.
  • Tempting Fate: When Candace asks Phineas if he knows what he's doing, she specifically says, "No jetpacks? No volleyball? No 'Where's Perry'?" Phineas says no, but as soon as she hangs up on Jeremy...
Phineas: Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!
    Candace: Oh...
    Phineas: Let's build jetpacks...
    Candace: Oh...
    Phineas: ...and play volleyball!
    Candace: Ohhh...
Phineas: Hey, Candace, have you seen Perry?
    Candace: Ohhh!!!
  • Three-Point Landing: Perry lands in Doof's building this way. Doof compliments him on his landing pose, but says it wouldn't work for him because it would be hard on the knees.
  • Waking Non Sequitur: A disheveled Monogram says, "Yeah, I'll have cake".
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Candace pulls one as part of her many diversions toward Linda.
Candace: I smashed my thumb in the...thing!
