Tropes applying to this episode:

  • All for Nothing: Beecher's deal with Schillinger to give him Guenzel in exchange for seeing Keller turns out to be for nothing when Howell beats Keller badly enough to force him to go to the hospital.
  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to feel sorry for Shupe after he lied about Cyril, knowing he could be sent to Death Row.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: All of Oz is horrified when Mukada is injured during the arson Kirk arranged, especially Alvarez.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kirk really manages to set Mukada off.
    Kirk: I'm innocent!
Mukada: YOU LIAR! YOU WILL BURN, KIRK!
  • Broken Pedestal: Sister Pete reconsiders what she thought about Glynn when he is totally indifferent to Peter's rape.
  • Break the Haughty: Guenzel is left broken and bleeding after Schillinger rapes him, helplessly staring up at Beecher.
  • Commonality Connection: Sister Pete gets Gloria to talk to Peter about what happened to him, feeling as a fellow rape victim Gloria can better understand what he's going through.
  • Depraved Dentist: A justified instance with Dr Faraj, as he repays Robson's earlier racial abuse by taunting him about the gum transplant's potentially non-White or non-heterosexual source.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Even Urbano thinks Adam's an ungrateful dick.
    • Played for Laughs with Schillinger; despite being a racist Neo-Nazi who rapes other inmates, even he thinks Robson is stupid for not taking his dental hygiene seriously.
  • False Friend: The Bikers buddy up with Guenzel so that he'll be easier for Schillinger to get to. He's dumb enough to fall for it.
  • Heel Realization: Said admits he was on a power trip and tries to make it up to Omar.
  • Jerkass: Glynn is disinterested when he is asked to investigate Peter Schibetta's rape and even downplays Prison Rape like it's no big deal.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Ellie accurately describes McManus as someone who always bets on the impossible and loses.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Beecher is clearly horrified when he finds Adam bloody in the gym.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • Poet spends the episode trying to get Burr to blame someone else for his actions.
    • Beecher tricks an unwitting McManus into sending Adam over to be raped by the Aryans.
  • Musical Episode: Hill's narration is replaced by various characters doing musical numbers. Highlights include Mukada singing "Leather" and Schillinger and Beecher's vaudeville style duet.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Dr. Faraj makes it his mission to humiliate Robson after Robson hurls abuse at him.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: Katherine stops defending Keller upon realising he's guilty.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Poet encourages Omar to start doing drugs again.
  • Ungrateful Bastard:
    • Guenzel beats and publicly humiliates Beecher, the only person who protected him, in front of the whole prison in favor of the Bikers. Beecher just lets Schillinger have him after that so he can see Keller.
    • Ryan is not receptive to Father Meehan's attempts to be friendly.
  • Villainous Friendship: Vern seems honestly concerned about Robson's health.
