Go To

Brooke copes with the T.A.R.T. fashion show and a new boyfriend. Rachel makes the cover of Maxim magazine, causing chaos at Tree Hill High. Lucas learns of Nathan's dealings with Daunte, and ultimately has to choose between Nathan and his love for basketball. Haley takes a babysitting job but finds herself in over her head. And Peyton's half-brother, Derek, forces Peyton to confront her deepest fears.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: It’s left unclear as to who was telling truth between Rachel and Mr Chavez. Whilst Brooke ultimately believes Rachel after finding out that Nick was hooking up with one of her models, nothing Nick claimed would have been out of character for Rachel - something backed up by Rachel and Brooke’s own history, which initially gets her to side with Nick.
  • Babysitting Episode: Haley babysits a brother and sister after school in order to make some extra cash and get some practice in before her baby is born; unfortunately for her, the children are both brats that she struggles to keep under control.
  • The Cameo: CariDee English from America's Next Top Model appears as Brooke’s model, Tia.
  • Disappointed in You: Lucas makes it clear that he’s lost respect for Nathan due to the point shaving and for putting Lucas in a situation where he had t compromise his own integrity to protect his brother.
  • Dramatic Irony: The boy Haley babysat telling Nathan "I want to be like you when I grow up" after Nathan just compromised his integrity by shaving points.
  • Heel Realization: Derek realises that constantly challenging Peyton to deal with her trauma without giving her the context of what he’s trying to accomplish by doing so is the wrong way to deal with her PTSD.
  • Hope Spot: After struggling to keep the kids she was babysitting under control, Haley finds them with Nathan, utterly enthralled as he teaches them how to shoot a free throw.
  • Loan Shark: Daunte tells Nathan that his debt has now increased by 50% due to "interest" and when Nathan protests, offers to wipe his debt - but only if the Ravens win their next game by less than 10 points instead of the expected blowout.
  • Never My Fault: Brooke and Nick both blame Rachel for getting him suspended, after Rachel tells Principal Turner about their secret relationship; however, they both knew what would happen if it was discovered a teacher and student were dating and chose to continue their relationship in secret regardless.
  • Poster-Gallery Bedroom: Peyton has added a vicious looking bulldog to her now-white bedroom above her bed; by the end of the episode, she’s added a tag in the shape of the flaming heart she painted for Lucas, containing Derek’s name.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Rachel is the first of Maxim’s "Hometown Hotties" to actually appear on the cover of the magazine - something that had never happened by 2006, with the magazine instead placing celebrities and more established models on the cover.
  • Secret-Keeper: Nathan tells Lucas about taking money from Daunte, and how he has to shave points to pay off his debt.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers
  • Trauma Button: Peyton winds up suffering from panic attacks when she tries to attend school, and later at the Ravens’ play-off semi final.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It’s never revealed what actually happens with Turner’s investigation into the alleged relationship with Brooke and Mr Chavez.
