Recap / Olimars Alimony Samus Returns

Go To

The chapter begins with a flash of red light outside The Flying Krock; Olimar reacts accordingly to the danger and rushes to protect his kids, but is too late. He awakes just beyond the smoldering wreckage of The Flying Krock after a particularly egregious crash-landing. Samus appears and assures him there are no bodies in the wreckage.

After some exploration, the two come across Falcon. Samus promptly takes him to her ship to outfit him with an arm cannon from her Varia Suit as a prosthetic leg of sorts. Suddenly Ridley lays waste to the ship, knocking Samus unconscious. Olimar and Falcon do battle with the beast and nearly lose, but Rosalina appears and manages to ward Ridley off, but not before the beast absconds with Samus in tow.

The group delves deeper into Zebes. They find Cranky protecting Olimar's kids from the Spore Spawn. After a harrowing fight, they continue on until they come across Kraid's lair. Kraid is defeated, but not before Cranky takes a blow to protect Olimar's kids; he gives them his crossbow and passes on. The group comes across Elise shortly thereafter before returning to the surface to find K. Rool in the wreckage of The Flying Krock, having just done battle with Phantoon. They then come across the President, huddled up in a hovel to take shelter from the acid rain.

The party delves into Norfair, where they face Metal Ridley once more. Metal Ridley is defeated and knocked into a pool of lava, leaving only his bones. The group continues on to the Space Pirate headquarters and encounters a captured Charlie, whom they free. They also come across a juvenile Metroid contained in a tube; Olimar smashes the tube open, and it promptly befriends him, sticking to his helmet.

Moving on to the next room, they come across a lab with three large containment tubes. In one, Ridley's remains. In another, plasm. And in the last, Samus in her Varia Suit. The tubes are connected to the Grand Star, which seems to be powering the creation. One of the Space Pirates manages to activate it before being killed by the party, starting a merging process between the three. Olimar smashes the tube housing Samus open, freeing her making it so that the plasm and Ridley's remains merge, creating Plasm Ridley. The Bulborbs, still present from Wraith Escape, reveal themselves to be plasm, creating a copy of Samus.

The group engages in a battle that involves Samus using the last of her suit's power to activate her Zero Laser in order to defeat her copy. The party ultimately flees through the use of the Grand Star, with Plasm Ridley in hot pursuit. Rosalina uses a considerable number of Lumas to create a black hole that sucks up Plasm Ridley, allowing the group to blast off in the Comet Observatory.

  • Artificial Limbs: Samus outfits Falcon with one of her Varia Suit arm cannons... as a replacement for his prosthetic peg leg. It works surprisingly well.
  • Badass in Distress: Samus ends up this for the majority of the chapter.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Rosalina manages to save Olimar and Falcon from near-certain death at the hands of Metal Ridley.
  • Coming in Hot: This would be the fourth crash landing by this point in the CYOA. Or the third, if you consider the landing in Alimony Crossing: New Leaf(of cash) to be too gentle for a crash landing.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Downplayed. Olimar very briefly breaks down when he suspects his children to have died in the crash, but Samus immediately assures him this isn't the case.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Plasm Ridley clearly qualifies.
  • First-Name Basis: Samus calls Captain Falcon by his first name, Douglas.
  • Good Prosthetic, Evil Prosthetic: Falcon has a prosthetic leg; most of Ridley's body is now prosthetic.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Cranky goes out taking an attack from Kraid that was intended for Olimar's children.
    • The Lumas that sacrifice themselves to create a Black Hole in response to Plasm Ridley's advance.
  • Hostile Weather: Highly acidic rain is present on the planet.
  • Hybrid Monster: Plasm Ridley.
  • I'm Melting!: Ridley's body melts away in a pool of lava, leaving only the bones.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Elise kicks a collapsed Ridley, causing him to fall off the edge of a platform and into the lava beneath.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Norfair.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Rosalina sensed the plasm's presence on Zebes, which is the entire reason she's on the planet to begin with.
